You have written a very meaningful poem. It is a cautionary write that tells an interesting and heart wrenching story. The beginning is like reading the start of a beautiful fairy tale about a young girl blossoming into womanhood and then it suddenly changes into a tragic nightmare. You captured my interest from start to finish. I was touched by the many emotions this poem evokes. One cannot help but wonder if the story is a personal one.

All the best

Eugene

Thank you Eugene for your thoughtful and encouraging review.

I appreciate you comments on an emotional topic. This was very cathartic for me to write.

It is a personal one from over 50-years-ago. Sometimes, it's as real as yesterday. But, some excellent therapy has let me put it in perspective.

G'day Janet. Great to see you posting mate. This is very beautiful written on this tragic topic. It is far too common that criminals get away with rape. I guess it's not as bad now, with DNA and the like, but it still happens.

Well done.

Cheers Fez

The law has changed a lot since those days, thank goodness, and we are finding woman are now coming forward, all these years later, and those cruel rapists are finally being brought to account. The victim should never feel shame and guilt. The courts were no help in those days, either, they would believe the perpetrator, not the victim, which, of course, made young girls again feel it was their own fault. Well done on writing this superb poem. xsx Sandra

Thank you so much Sandra for you thoughtful and encouraging review. Things have changed and men are being held accountable. This man has been dead for some time now but I wonder how many young women he molested over the years and as far as I know, he never was brought to justice.

What a shame the disgraces women had to endure. It is so wrong not to believe a woman when it comes to such a humiliating act. Most men will stick together and blame the woman for the rape, even police officers. Your poem is well written and flows nicely with smooth rhyming. Good job, I really enjoyed reading your poem.

This is a very important, but very difficult, subject for a poet or author to write about, and I salute you for doing so. It takes courage to write about experiences as painful as this one.

You're right, of course, about the way girls (and grown women) were made to feel as long ago as the 50s. Unfortunately that attitude is still around, although things have improved.

The comparison between some rape survivors being exiled from society and the Jews being exiled to Babylon is a good one. It helps to make clear the tragedy and trauma that women and girls have experienced.

I used to work taking care of children who had been adjudicated dependent by the court. My young charges often included girls that had been raped, many by their own fathers. So thank you for writing this poem. Margaret

JMF: I hope that she got help with the issue of rape. So many don't know what to do. Then being alone they can repeat, rewind and review the shame of the trauma. Great awareness. This still happens at colleges and other places. It's been in the news lately too. Thursday's child has Far to go...hope she is helping others and healed. God bless! flylikeanegle

I wish I had a six for this poem. It has some poignant thoughts but the ugliness raises it's nasty head. I hate these gutless cowards that do this to a woman, especially a young girl.

This bright back a long ago memory of of friend of mine, Evelyn. I was in a bar with some buddies except for one sitting there. Ev came in and saw me, she gave me a hug, but turned and left. The guy I didn't like told us he took her out, got her drunk and had his way with her. I exploded out of my seat, hit him with a devastating right. Dragged him outside and beat him senseless. He went to the hospital, wanted to press charges but no one in our group would testify for him. Not long after, he left town. Ev recovered but was never the same happy person that knew.

This is really very well written,,,,,Jim

Good for you and good for your friends. Not all men have the respect for women and the courage of their convictions that you demonstrated. I'm proud to call you friend.

My mom always taught me respect for people especially women. I listened to her and I am the man I am because of her.

A very good story in a poem! There were so many taboo things that we were off limits to discuss in shared company; even, privately back then. Rape, of course, the top one. Your words are kind and moving as you progress to each verse. There is great imagery and sadness that the reader cannot miss seeing or feeling. The flow is great, as is the rhyming and meter. Loved the read. God bless and hugs, Susanne

The artwork you choose to go with your poem is a perfect match
Just looking into her face you knew something was a mist
There are so many girls like that it's a sad the man get away free.
