I don't know how I missed this post--perhaps, I too was traveling. I liked your choice of the Minute Poem for this autobiographical story. I admired your rhymes and capturing your father's sense of humor, and I appreciated your notes of additional context. Warm regards- Joan

Hi Joan...like me, if you travel, it is easy to miss some writing, which is fine. I am pleased you enjoyed this... my Papa did have a very dry sense of humour. Thank you, my friend, for this kind and generous review. Warmest regards, Marijke :o)

This is a fine Minute poem on the uncertainty of life. It's not up to us to decide when time's up. I experienced the same thing with my parents. All the concerned bed-side sitting didn't work. They passed when none of us were "hovering." The sketch by your son is wonderful. Marilyn

Hi Marilyn, my word, you've been busy! Thanks for your lovely review. Yes, our son is a wonderful artist... Warmest regards, Marijke :o)

It goes in spurts, Marijke. When my dog died recently I wasn't on FanStory much for a few weeks. I've caught up now on my reading and reviewing.

Deeply moving minute poem that touched my heard. It flows smoothly and tells a lovely story about a lovely man. I enjoyed your notes too, thank you so much for adding them.

Thank you so much, Sasha, for those lovely words... somehow my sister and I just knew before we left... his timing was never good! But at 93 he was entitled to go when he felt his time was right! I can still feel him smiling down on us, with a 'gotcha!'. Love him. Warmest regards, Marijke :o)

Great sketch to compliment your poem. Maybe (with respect) He always would be running late JUST to make us wait? He will be a LIVER long. We were sailing oceans blue, as if on cue. Funny little poem, most enjoyable, mate.

Deep and sad. A testament to the berevity of life itself and how fragile it is. Emotional poetry. Well written. The rhythm is very good. Thank you for sharing your talent .

Hi TD, thank you for those kind words. Can you please advise how I can improve on this poem, as you have down rated it at a 4. I would love your constructive criticism, thanks. Warmest regards, Marijke :o)
-
If i gave it a four that was an accident, let me go fix that.
-
Thank you... I don't mind fours... but I like to know why. Your comments didn't reflect a four. Warmest regards, Marijke :o)

I enjoyed our poem about your dad from the Saturday challenge. You did a great job with the format. Your poem allows the reader to get to know a little about your dad.
Good job and thanks for sharing. Funny how things work out, though. Jan

Wow.
Kinda reminds me of some lyrics from a very talented female folk singer. You may have heard of her, Marijke, her name is Alanis Morissette:
Isn't it Ironic?
"An old man turned ninety-eight
He won the lottery and died the next day
It's a black fly in your Chardonnay
It's a death row pardon two minutes too late
And isn't it ironic ... don't you think
It's like rain on your wedding day
It's a free ride when you've already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
Who would've thought ... it figures
Mr. Play It Safe was afraid to fly
He packed his suitcase and kissed his kids goodbye
He waited his whole damn life to take that flight
And as the plane crashed down he thought
"Well isn't this nice..."
And isn't it ironic... don't you think
It's like rain on your wedding day
It's a free ride when you've already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
Who would've thought... it figures"
A lovely, well written tribute to your dearly departed father, and in true Minute form.
Well done...

Thank you Dean, for this kind review and for likening them (somewhat) to that marvelous song by Alanis Morissette... I love it. Warmest regards, Marijke :o)

It's always a pleasure, Marijke, you're more than welcome.

A lovely drawing of your father by your son, who must be very talented. I don"t think Doctors can ever predict when somebody will die or not. But you suggest that it was your father's timing, it was always wrong. I am pleased you are at peace with it, even though you were on a cruise. And your father lost his zeal for life. A well written Minute poem.

Hi Ine. Yes I am at peace with his passing... he was 93, and had wanted to die for some time. He had a typical 'Amsterdamse' sense of humour, and would have been laughing at his 'untimely' death, I am sure. Thank you so much for this very generous and kind review, my friend. Warmest regards , Marijke :o)

Hi Marijke.
Yes I remember it. Ineke and Harry were in the middle of the ocean and had to sail on a rubber boat to reach a harbor. They had to catch a bus and a cab to reach the airport. If yoru dad could have seen it it would give him a big laugh, I know his sense of humor. By the way Ineke had to laugh too....afterwards.... But on that very moment she was so squared. Anyway the time of his passing away was perfect, because they could say goodbye. Great poem my dearest friend
Lots of love and big hugs Fietje xxxxx

Hello, dear friend. I knew you would understand this poem better than anyone... you know exactly what happened... and of course, you knew Papa's dry sense of humour. I did actually say, 'Papa, your timing!', as I threw my hands up in the air. Thank you so much for your comments and your very generous six star rating. Love and miles of happy smiles, Marijke :o)
