    Hi, Linda
I'm totally behind. Such a lazy boy with no air conditioning. LOL
I loved Ali, one of my roll models in many ways. Great fun going bowling with me because I'd always make a huge deal out of it like Ali did. Win or lose, it would be fun. Thanks a bunch, mikey xxoo

He was certainly a man who found his path and stood his ground even when it didn't make him popular. I'm glad I lived in the generation that watched his journey

Yes, I am too. So many things we grew up with seemed so perfectly timed. From the T.V. with the pliers to the moon. What a whirlwind. Ali was such a role model for me in many ways. One of the best ways was the fun that life could be. A lot of people misunderstood that about him. Thanks so much, mikey

Ali will forever be the greatest, in more ways than in boxing. He was a humble man, making friends with my husband's elderly relatives in Hollyweird, visiting them in their modest bungalow adjacent to the athletic club he frequented. Definitely a standout person.

Now to your poem...outstanding tribute to a great man, expressing both his boldness as an athlete and his heart as a human being.

His daughter just posted that after all his organs failed, his heart beat for another thirty minutes. Medical staff were amazed ...I'm not.

What an awesome story and typical of him from what I've heard. He truly was my idol and I'm not one for idols at all. I can't tell you how much fun me doing my Ali impression brought to simple bowling outings or tennis matches. People don't realize that it was for the FUN of it and not some ego thing. He was a great sport and always respectful to his opponents win or lose. What an amazing fact you unfold at the end. I got chills reading it. I'm not amazed either. :)) Thanks so much. mikey

Hi Mikey

I always admired him and what he tried to do. So intelligent, yet worked in a sport which knocked his brain about. I'm not a fan of boxing, or sports where violence is the key. He was a great man, an idol for me too when I would listen to his great wit in interviews and his world view. I can't remember the disease which he suffered from, something like MS. I must admit to not knowing what became of him after his fame diminished. Hail to a hero. Much aligned and suffered a fate of a diminished mind which had been great. High intelligence is so often misunderstood. May he now rest in peace. A wonderful tribute. Hugs - Lovi xoxo

Actually his mind remained sharp up until the end. Only his ability to express himself diminished. Maybe a worse fate, but it didn't seem to get him down somehow. He remained a world figure and ambassador up until the end. A great man and indeed my idol and I'm not one for idols. Thanks a bunch. Sorry to be so late responding. Hugs mikey xxoo

    Hi Mikey

I guess I lost track of him over time... I'm so pleased he kept that brilliant mind.A worthy idol! No worries, my responses are tawdry to say the least. :( Huge hugs - Lovi xoxo

A nice tribute to this famous boxer. I have to give thumbs down on your meter. It's tough to even force it to work.

-syllables are all good

- you used a different set of rhymes in the second stanza which is a no-no.

This just doesn't seem like your usual fine writing. Unless that is where the "modified" description comes into play? Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.

Yeah, I didn't even have the form in front of me. Just went by the general idea and wanted to get some words down. Not my best technically, you're right. LOL
    Modified means, "Way off". HAHAHA!!!
    Thanks a bunch, mikey

Damn it! Where are all those sixes when I need one. Beautiful description for a "Float like butterfly and sting like a bee," kind of poem. Words of appreciation for a deserving champion of a man who spent his last years trying to leave an unforgettable legacy far more memorable than even his historic feats in the ring. Thanks for sharing another of your outstanding poems that show your competitive tendencies as a sportsman and respectful allegiance for a legend. Great job. :-)

He was a perfect role model for a rebel to grow up with. He really was a great sportsman and when it came down to it a respectful competitor with a handshake and praise for his opponents after the hooplah was over. That was clearly for hype and fun. You'll hear it if we ever go bowling. HAHAHA. "I've never been beat bowling. I'm the greatest bowler of all time!" Yep, a lot more fun than "let's go bowling". mikey

I couldn't agree more, my friend - Ali stood up for and promoted love, and he was a man of great courage, in my opinion, as well as a true sportsman and gifted boxer. I would have loved to see him fight somewhere other than inside that square box (our TV).

I love your tribute to him and was so shocked to hear on the news this morning that he had passed. The world has lost another great and compassionate soul.

You're right. That took so much courage. It was also in a different day and time, when it wasn't the norm for black people to shoot off their mouths about how awesome and great they were and certainly not about how much better they were than any white fighters. He was my hero during SEVERAL stages of his life. Hi daughter carries on his legacy now for me.

This is a super cool piece, Mikey -- you monkey!

Love the picture and presentation. The rhymes are effective in punching out the dynamics of Ali's life to accentuate the highlights. I'm not familiar with an octogram - when I Google it, it just has stuff relating to a star-shape with 8 sides. From your poem, I'm guessing it's two stanzas with 8 lines each and a specific rhyme scheme - ababccaa

Great job of putting the reader in the ring to witness the great Ali. I remember a few of his fights - the grace in motion and self promotion. His hype and joy of commotion grew his audience until the entire world knew who he was and what he did and could do - he did float like a butterfly and sting like a bee. He attacked boxing and life with unbridled joy. His success was unique and long-lasting.

Enjoyed your poem and notes. Ali is your idol and you learned some worthwhile things from how he lived and fought the battles of life. Cheers ... ;o)

A lovely tribute to an incredible athlete. I loved to watch him fight and the pride that still portrayed him even as he suffered with his illness. A great write! God bless and hugs, Susanne
