Great suspense and suspicion. I love the sense of dread and peril of being followed by an SUV:
"Did you hear that?That SUV's engine started. They're following us. Why?"
I do not know why either, but I read along to learn what happens next. This is brisk, animated prose that is action-packed. Thank you for sharing another chapter in your crime adventure.

I haven't followed the story so I can only comment on how this chapter appeared to me.
The writing seems perfect.
I liked the way the tension built--over a cheeeseburger.
As Jim opened the passenger door for Soni, she hesitated. "Did you hear that?" She started to point, but stopped herself. "That SUV's engine started. They're following us. Why?"
"More importantly, are they dangerous?" Jim scanned the inside of Soni's SUV. "Did you restock ammunition after our gunfight at the over-turned semi?"
That sets the stage for more to come.
I mised the part on the overturned semi ...

Great writing! This could have been a thriller I picked up from Amazon's best-seller list. I liked the dialogue between the two characters. Very easy to read, which is what I look for in a good book. I could picture the events, the scenes, in my mind very clearly. They feel like real people-- talking and reacting like real people.
I searched for something to critique--anything. Didn't find a thing. I did wonder who he was texting, but I assume that the readers will find out eventually. Getting dropped into the middle of a story, I always wonder what comes next, how does it end, etc.
Once again, really good writing. I'm sorry I couldn't help polish it for you, but it looks like you've done a pretty good job of that yourself.
