Love the descriptive line for this: lakeside buffet. A perfect haiku with a complete sentences followed by the satori line. Good use of assonance with wait, lake, and patience.

One can picture the herons as they wait with baited breath for the morning catch to float their way. This haiku sets that scene up nicely.

A great idea for a Haiku, and an effective satori. I would have liked punctuation, though I'm not sure about the rules, and two more words:

three herons wait
at lakeshore with patience
lunch line

Three herons wait
at lakeshore with great patience.
Nature's lunch line.

This is an excellent entry for the contest. Good luck to you.

Thank you, C.J., for this kind review for my haiku. I truly appreciate your taking the time to read and share your thoughts. Haiku doesn't use punctuation or capitalizations unless it's a proper noun in its poetry.

    You're very welcome.
    I didn't know that. I guess I would prefer to write a 5-7-5 rather than a Haiku then! :)

This brings forth the most beautiful imagery as it should. You kept the fundamentals of Haiku writing as well. Exceptional work I wish I had stars of six for.

Hey, Kar

You are indeed the Haiku Poet. This poem is perfect in all things required of haiku. You have truly captured a moment in time and thus created a strong visual image for the reader to ponder.

The first two lines are grammatically connected and form a concrete image in the mind of the reader. The satori line is fun and apt, and also another concrete image. There's no desk haiku here!

Good luck to you in the contest.

Ray

Hi Karyn,

I like your poem a lot. You have written it very nicely. I can't get artwork up with my poems a lot of the time either. Something is always happening on my computer.

OK, Kar, I'm going to be irritatingly silly and nit-pick your grammar. Who is this guy/gal called, 'Patience', who the herons are hanging out with? ;-)

Seriously, excellent imagery, and selecting a particular number, rather than just, 'herons', adds extra detail. I can imagine these three herons peering at the water, waiting for 'lunch', to swim by.

Excellent.

Cher, Ray xx

I love the humour in this as an entry in this Haiku poetry contest, the poem is rather inspired, it's difficult to get something, one has to think that way, but well done, this is inspired, good luck, blessings, Roy

A heron emptied my pond of all my lovely large koy, it was an expensive breakfast! I now have a grid over it. I could see your waiting patiently by the lake. I am sure they had a wonderful lunch. I liked the last line, lunch line, very clever. Excellent haiku Karyn, good luck in the contest.
