Ha, what a wonderful haiku, Karyn. You write them up really well. I can totally picture these three herons waiting for a few fishies to swim by for some delicious lunch.

Concrete imagery, excellent and yet subtle kigo, and a lovely satori line.

This is written perfectly to form, so I wish you all the best in the contest.

Gloria

PS: The notecards with haiku sound lovely. You do most certainly do need to paint, draw or photograph your own material too.

Thank you, Gloria, for this kind review for my haiku. I truly appreciate your taking the time to read and share your thoughts. I so wanted to use the sketch of 3herons for this poem, but lately, I'm not able to upload anything for my posts from my iPad. I never had any trouble before, so I don't know what's going on.

Beautifully written and delicious haiku, Indy-heron. This haiku needs no picture as you so clearly paint the picture of those three herons. I can picture myself patiently waiting along with them, perhaps watching minnows dart back and forth. It's a marvelous day to be at the lake - blue sky and puffy white clouds. I'm munching on a tuna-fish sandwich as I ponder what the herons will chose for their lunch.

Excellent haiku and contest entry. Well done! ... ;o) Picnic-Kat

note - have relayed your haiku to Marti and she loves it!

Hello and Happy Holliday, PicnicKat! A picnic sounds like a great idea for the day. Thank you so much for your generous rating, kind review, and encouraging comments for my haiku. I so wanted to use Marti's 3herons logo picture with this poem, but try as I might, I haven't been able lately to upload pictures for any of my posts. Thanks for sharing it with her.

A well-written haiku and the three herons I can just imagine. How beautiful it can be. Where they patiently waiting at the lake's shore for their lunchtime treat.

I read your authors notes and would love to see what inspired this Haiku that you penned. Actually, your words are vision enough. A reader can picture the herons lined up- I like the last line (lunch line) cute.

Fishing, whether by the two-legged species, or herons, is most often a time consuming venture with a positive result for those patient enough to wait.

Well written poem depicting this theme.

Very good on the haiku for the prompt, Around here it would be ducks waiting for a free lunch. Good luck on this and have a great day

I like the background you provide here...that is pretty cool. As for your poem itself, I chuckled just a bit at your final line. It stirs amusing imagery and somehow brings me back to grade school. Well done and good luck in the contest.

Nice haiku. Association between herons' legs and line could be exploited better to make this haiku 's image more visual and wittier too like .....three herons wait
One leg stands in line
For lunchtime.

But if the word "lakeshore" and patience have more meaning to you that perhaps have escaped me, leave it then as it is. It is still a very nice poem. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, Mary, for this review for my haiku. I appreciate your taking the time to read and share your thoughts. Yes, of course lakeshore and patience mean something to this scene of nature, and that's why I used those words in the poem.

I love the 'punch' (satori) of 'lunch' line. lol. You have 2 great lines of imagery and 2 interconnected lines, and good kigo.

Overall a great haiku.

Where in the world have you been, Irish? It seems like forever since I've seen a post of yours. This is a definite winner in the contest, I can tell you that much. I love the simplicity and the satori is killer. Bravo!
