His Grayness: a beautiful poem about love and gratitude. I like your photo.
One must always maintain and stimulate love with action. We can share
time together with a hot meal, walk or watching tv together. Enjoy
the new year. flylikeaneagle - nancy

I understand the analogy - that's good. Your words all work well together to paint your refreshing description of love - as well as to point out the need for constant attention to prevent the effects of neglect. A very nice read and read-again.

Good Morning, Vance,

I enjoyed reading your love poem this morning. I think the metaphor of the fresh fountain of gratitude is an apt one. I admire your use of excellent words to give the poem a touch of the Old English. For example, ere, sloth, and the last line.

May I offer some suggestions for you to consider?

fountain of Gratitude = foundation of gratitude
ere' = ne'er
ere is an archaic word meaning before. I'm thinking you're trying to say, "...springs never (ne'er) be tainted...

An excellent poem, Vance, and best of luck to you in the contest.

Ray

Thanks Ray and sorry for the delayed reply as I've been offline for some time. I appreciate you kind thoughts and professional commentary as I have the highest regard for your writing skills. I do admit to be kind of a mind-dumper sometimes and miss the precisions that are so important. Kindest regards and sincere thanks, Vance

This is great, Vance. I read it a few times and looked closely at the picture until I really got this clearly. Which is interesting too, because I love the distortion of the picture of what I see as a fire hydrant shooting a "fountain" straight up.
I looked very closely. Each word has specific import and, so impact to me as a reader. It's one of your hallmarks, sir to lift spirits and this does that in spades.
The wise "Senior Kid' is like an Ole Owl if you ask me! LOL Great stuff, my friend. Bruce.

Thanks, so very much, Vance. Some people just connect well and for me, you are a rare source of inspiration that I can always visit be get my head back on straight. What I mean is, that your writing reflect a mindset that I value, trust and seldom run across in my daily activities. You, bring a certain attitude of gracious, articulate joy. Joy and Gratitude is my gift from you Bruce, and, "Inspiration" proceeds therefrom! How precious is that?? Wow

It's called having a big heart, my friend. You are a blessing to humanity, rare and sadly cursed (inherently) with dealing with intense passion and that can be extremely painful. I promise this is so. I think the key is to write, at least it is for me. What I have bottled up is colossal in force. It's raw and eternal too much for mortal reality or at least it seems this way. I know that's a bit thick, but it explains so much of the inexplicable conditions of life in some little degree. Who knows/

Your analogy of the fountain of love that engenders gratitude needs maintenance and care is quite poignant. Well crafted. It puts forth positive thoughts in an uplifting manner with metaphor (fountain), elision (ere'), a touch of alliteration (fresh fountain, will well), and even in-line rhyme (well shall). Caesura in line 1, and 5. Rhyme scheme: abcdeda. I would say this is a free style format, effectively used.

Love is the best of all the fruits of the spirit . Too often our own self concession prevents us from nurturing it. Nice poem to remind us.

Hi, Vance,
"Love is a fountain" is an excellent poem. It has good figurative language that conveys emotion and is unusual. Its rhymes are simple. Its rhythm is good. Good luck in the contest.

The trouble is that our culture shoves love in many categories, I much prefer the Greek category, that's why a "love poem" , has many variations, and I'm glad to say people are venturing outside the hackneyed romantic kind they talk about! Well done Brother Vance, your talking about the more expansive form of love which accepts all, well done, excellent entry in this contest, good luck, blessings,

Love is gratitude. What a great message!!!!. I truly like that. Gratitude makes all of us glow with love, the one we feel it about and us, the ones getting the pleasure of it. Thank you for a great insgight.
