I am not into "spectator sports" -- particularly involving animals. That said, I do know a well-written descriptive story when I read it. You effectively enabled me to "picture" the scenes you mentioned, understand the effort that horse and rider must have put into those routines, and see why you like them. That is what fine writing should accomplish, and it did so with smooth flow throughout.

you capture the beauty of dressage in this piece and the photo was an excellent choice. When I was younger it was goal to ride and complete until my health changed.
The movements of the horse does it naturally. The rider guides the horse by his/her seat and legs with goal to remain still to show off the horse.
Your piece captured the love and explained this very well making it outstanding.

The sport you are describing includes two athletes to compete, the horse and the rider. I have seen performances of dressage and you are right, it's a magnificent experience especially with the inclusion of the music. Your love for the sport is very evident in your description and it's nice to bring dressage to people's attention.

The story line development: horse and rider dance on spot or throughout the show arena. They use different gaits to make-up the dance. The horse must lift it's legs just so to meet the standards, while the rider must sit upright-straight and still. Each must preform perfectly to advance. Both will have worked together no less then seven years and normally 10-12 years to get a standing in the Prix St Georges Dressage. The patterns used in dressage must be performed by all the same.
The emotion felt excitement having seen many dressage performances. The beauty you observe in a performance will cause chills up the spine.
