This article is so well done. Before reading it, I did not even know the word "dressage." But with the help of your description of the various moves and the information you carefully chose to include, it is as though I am in an arena watching this choreographed synchronicity between horse and rider unfold. It seems so majestic and classy in contrast to other human/animal events like, for instance, rodeo, where man and creature are often pitted against one another.
Your tone throughout is appropriate--instructional but not condescending, and your passion for the sport is evident. Thank you for the dual pleasures of reading good writing and learning about something totally new in the process.

Thank you. I'm so glad you liked the story. I love watching dressage but I had to look up some of the terms used in the disciplines. I learned a lot myself by writing this.

Thank you. I have received some responses from dressage horse riders. They state that these movements are all natural for a horse. Thanks for the correction. I will edit.

Orchestrated movements on command of a human to music could NEVER be a natural act for any animal. That does make me laugh.

Living in Arizona for most of my life, I am use to cutting horses where is is horse against the beef. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very good read.

Thank you. Dressage is not common here in Michigan either. I mostly watch it on television. It is lovely to behold and a form of art.

I, like you, have had many horses. They were all dressage horses and I trained and competed in the discipline. As you say it's a wonderful sport. I would like to add that the movements that the horse perform is all natural to it; something it can do spontaneously on the field. Also the rider mostly instructs the horse with the rider's seat and to a lesser degree the rider's legs. It is those instruction the horse has to learn and the rider as well. Also you are right that it takes years. Writing about it makes me miss it very much. A very well written piece you have here, and I wish you good luck in the competition. All the best. Ulla:))

Thank you. Wow, you impress me. I have always loved dressage but never had the chance to learn anything abut it. You have actually ridden dressage. I'm so glad you took the time to read this story and comment on it. I had to look up the dressage terms in order to write about them. I'm so happy you approve and I got the disciplines right. I will be very happy to do that, but so far I don't know who you are, LOL. I'll vote in the contest and I'll find out afterwards. If you are at all interested I have lots to tell. i was so lucky to be trained by an olympic contender at one time. I never got to that level by any means but did I learn a lot. Well, he took me under his wing, so I couldn't have been a hopeless case. All best. Ulla:)))

Thank you. Actually, I know very little about how these horses are trained or ridden. I love to watch the dressage shows as I consider it an art form. It is so beautiful. I have read a lot about the different movements and this is where I got my information. I always wanted to learn dressage but to much to do every day.
