Love your descriptions of - our dreams a coiled spaghetti - when the film slips off the spool. Memories of Woodville pictures on a Saturday afternoon. Great 5 - 7 - 5 verses for this week's Potlatch. Tony.
cheers,

Many thanks, Pearl. There are a few things I shall probably change a bit in this, which by its nature is little more than a rough draft - but this kind of speed-writing does sometimes produce some interesting subconscious connections! Glad you enjoyed it anyway!

Very clever double-meaning of, 'reeling', Tony, though I found the 3rd line a bit cliché, and I'm sure you could invent a more original synonym.

Maybe dispense with the capital letters, as I think a 'cleaner' look in these shorties is often more effective, but that's just personal preference.

I love the word, 'gormless', that I haven't heard or seen for ages.

This series reminds me of when I was a kid and we used to go to, 'Saturday Morning Pictures'. Perfect atmosphere of the amateur mishaps that used to regularly happen, re-created here.

At first, I thought, 'spaghetti' referred to the old Spaghetti Westerns, but then realised it didn't, though it's good to be reminded of them. ;-)

Excellent.

Cheers, Ray.

I agree with you about the capitalisation of the first letter and will change that. The cliche 'hooked fish' also needs attention and spaghetti is an indifferent metaphor for the coils of film upon the floor. You have picked out some of the more glaring weaknesses!

Oh yes and we would look up at the box and yell.
I guess it was kinda rude but to get interrupted in the middle of the blob and left in the dark was unthinkable.
Very well done

Great imagery with you similie of the fish on the hook. It is so true that we sit in movies and just cannot wait to see what happens. Even if we don't like it or something goes wrong with th equipment, no one seems to dare leave, just in case something interesting may happen. And all those dreams get back on track.

Tony--
This is faultlessly done, but, for me, without the content that would make it a celluloid great. My dreams are not "coiled spaghetti" but Gregory Peck and Ingrid Bergman skiing down that Hollywood slope toward whatever is the memory he has lost of the man on the roof with the "circle" in his hand. I, at least, need more. And how about the Dali painting of eyes in that one? And what about the "screen memory" in the old Manchurian Candidate? They are mainstays of people...stabbing at the truth, mostly missing, but still stabbing.

Thanks
Jeff

The 'coiled spaghetti' was a somewhat indifferent metaphor for the coils of celluloid on the floor when the film breaks, taking our cinematographic idols down with them - at least temporarily. You have reminded me of some old favorites. Last Year in Marienbad was another that etched itself deeply on my mind.

Uh oh, been there, done that, listened to the boos of the crowd. Man, does this bring back memories! What a great suite of 5-7-5's, Tony. One of two theatres in my hometown - allowance spent every Saturday for the ticket, one coke and a box of popcorn. We got cartoons back in the day too, and the movie was never off for long. I enjoyed this very much. :))

Nice job, Tony. I like how you got the people hooked like fish, only to have the machine slip the spool...and
"all now unravels" Maybe the dreams should be uncoiled spaghetti, as is the mess of film on the floor (presumably)...just as the lights go out!
Nice job. I'm coming in late on this one; I've been working. I also wrote about old movies...about to post.

Cheers Tony;
-these are three marvelous 5/7/5 syllabic formats that all particularly relative to the theme of the theater.
- the picture is very appropriate, relative and supportive to the conceptual theme of the writing about the writing is very conducively related to the picture.
-the exciting imagery was distinctively clear and definitively expressive and very vividly and demonstratively descriptive for each one in any combination they were a collection of a great concept and idea.
- the metaphorical idea of having the theater film acting like a bowl of spaghetti as it falls to the floor is brilliant.
- thank you for sharing and posting and may the Lord be with you always Tony.

Hi Tony!

I love how you centered this on the old reel movies, the sound of the projector, and the film, like a noodle winding out of the spool to display a fantasy on the big screen. This is an awesome selection! :) I completely underestimated the offering that could come from these 5-7-5 Suites!

Well done!!

Kim

Hi, Tony Fawcus. Well, I'm not surprised to discover that you've written another perfect poem. It takes me back, too. It's just wonderful. Although, since I'm not British, I did have to look up gormless. :)

Very many thanks for your generous review of this Potlach response, Margaret, and for the six stars. Glad you enjoyed it and that it brought back some fond memories. Yes, 'gormless' is a peculiarly British expression. I thought it described the impassive faces of many of the viewers cruelly but rather well!
