The giant magnolia trees here in NC are starting to show first blooms. They are beauties. Your words tell the story in so few words. well done

This 5-7-5 about Spring, Fragrant Magnolia, takes me back to both Oklahoma and North Carolina and the pleasant magnolia wafting in the air. Nice.

I just love how the scent of something can trigger a memory. It is more special when it is a positive one that seems to transcend you to another place and time-sort of a micro-mini vacation (in a way). LOL At least that is what your sweet 5-7-5 made me think of.
I'm glad you put the pronunciation in the author's notes because when I say it, it has 4 syllables. mag no lee a. (regional perhaps)
Anyway, great job!

Awh! The sweet southern magnolia trees with their beautiful tulip shapes. We love these trees too. At the White Rock gardens in Texas, these are enormous. Amazing!
Great syllable count and poem. flylikeaneagle

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful...what can I say about this.
Yes, its a short poem and not easy to judge, but I think this is the correct ingredients for this form.
If this was longer, which it can't be, it would be a six from me, of which it's worth but we don't have enough of them
Bravo.
Don't be surprised to see this fighting for the win.
Best wishes,
RGstar

I do declare, Mz Scarlett, I kin smell them Magnolia blossoms
m'ownse'f--if it would only stop feckin' snowin'!
They say that our sense of smell triggers memories more
readily than any of our other senses. I'm a fervent believer.
I smell it now. And, of course, I'm hearing the Grateful Dead's
Sugar Magnolia. ...gotta come up soon for air.
Best of luck.
Peace, Lee

I love your comments, hw, and put on "Sugar Magnolia" to write this reply. I agree about scents triggering memories more than the other senses. Thank you for your generous rating, wonderful review, and the best comments for my poem. I loved having that magnolia tree outside my bedroom window, and the scent was incredible, especially right after a rain shower. Thank you so much.

My in laws had a huge magnolia tree in their front yard up until last month. My moth r in law finally got tired of the pods and huge leaves messing up her yard, so she had it cut down. I haven't been to see it yet but I know I'll be shocked. Great 5/7/5. You made me conjure up a good memory and vision of it. Gretchen

It's my favorite fragrance and flower too. Bought two bushes a year and a half ago. They're finally blooming.
Excellent use of alliteration with f and m.

This poem is very nostalgic. I enjoyed reading about how the colour magnolia fills the air and the poet thinks of home. I liked both the picture and the poet. Good luck in the contest and thank you for sharing.
