HI, Kar,
I don't know how I missed this lovely haiku. I love this most Southern Haiku about the South's most known flower, the magnolia.
The fragrance of the magnolia is strong, yet sweet, and recognizable among all other tree flowers. It does indeed bespeak the old home place in the Southern attitudes.
Your haiku is well penned, capturing an observable moment in time. The satori is perfect.
The haiku is emotive and creates a feeling of wholesomeness within the reader's mind.
Well penned,
Ray

I'm glad you found this haiku, PM. I had a magnolia tree outside my bedroom window when we moved to Valparaiso, and the fragrance was one I never experienced before in Buffalo. I became addicted and wished they lasted longer. I especially loved it right after a rain.
Thank you for your response and giving such a bright star to the poem.
Smiles,
Kar :-)

Hi there indianairish
I love this 5-7-5 and wonder if you intended it to ring with nostalgia which rhymes nearly with magnolia. That's what popped into my head as I read this anyway. Thanks for sharing this! R

I share your memories of magnolias as something representing home. The house where I first lived had a huge magnolia out the front. I believe the tree is still standing, although the old house has now gone.
Your pretty 5-7-5 deserves the accolades. Congratulations on your win.

The magnolias certainly do fill the air with a sweet fragrance that reminds any southerner of home.
Good job with the prompt. The picture is awesome. Good job on the syllable count, too. Good use of alliteration.
Best wishes in the contest. Thanks for sharing. Jan

This is a lovely 5-7-5 poem about spring. It is nicely descriptive and great imagery.
One could imagine from the smell of the magnolia, bring memories of home as they grew in ones yard. Great contest entry!
