Oh man, I would be so upset if this was the life chosen by a daughter or son of mine, and so opposed, obviously, to the manner in which they were raised. Your SIL sounds like a piece of work, surrounding by many without an idea of what real work is. The wife of the friend sounds like the only one in your camp that day...good for her.

Your writing evokes a sadness and sense of disillusionment for the life your daughter has chosen in a man, and rightly so. I am so sorry.

It was hard for hubby and I to digest. Sometimes, Nichole made a comment that let me know she had problems with his behavior too. I found out by accident (long story there) that she considered a divorce seven years after the marriage.

Oh goodness I missed this, and I was waiting the other movie that could possibly be worse than the Manson Family.

Oh, wannabe actors, well they are a shifty lot at best.

Honestly, it sounds like Jeff doesn't have much going on for understanding other people even if he and his buddies enjoy the crude, over the top humour.

Very interesting story though. The Love Boat would've been by far the better choice.

Now off to the next chapter.

Great job with this.

I wonder if she would like to return to that world of happy endings. :-) She's too cynical anymore.

This chapter is the perfect example how one person's life can take on another phase granted by the love of someone else. It is not unusual that a woman in order to "keep" her man will go along with any vices or desires. They become a slave to his ideals. I am hoping for Nichole's wake-up call which will bring her back to reality. Noted also is "his" friends were invited and other than you and your husband there is no mention of her individual friends. This leads me to believe that she is truly controlled. I am sorry you had to view this horror of a dvd.

Thanks so much for reinforcing what happened. I fear Nichole had invested so much time in this relationship, she didn't want to start over. Anyway, good news is on the way in a couple of chapters. She's going back to her love of theater and singing.

Hi Shari,
You did a great job with your story details. I could so see this scene as it played out...I would have been so embarrassed to be showing this to my mother and dad...plus it would not have been my cup of tea either.
Probably wouldnt invited my buddies over while my parents were visiting but I'm sure that was all Jeff!

Sounds like your daughter married a man that is very empty inside and seeks
anything on the dark side to fill a spiritual need. Unfortunately many people
are in this rut in various forms. You write so well and express yourself in a sincere way. I hope your daughter doesn't loose the beautiful things she liked to do and watch, like the "Sound of Music". Look forward to the next chapter. Sorry I didn't
get to read it right away but I have been busy gardening. I really haven't written or read much this past week.

How perceptive Kaydoe. At times I saw it in my daughter too. She's become so cynical and hates people. Jeff too. Maybe CA does that to you. The past two years she has shown signs of returning to her first love of singing and acting. Hey, I've been busy gardening too. My posts and reviews are few and far between these days. Thanks again for following.

It is hard to see when it's your daughter. I am going through something somewhat similar with my daughter. She married a man she met on the internet and lived close by. She was worried about her biological clock ticking and not being married. She married a man she does not love. He has a lot control issues. They have been married about 11 years. She has a 6 and 10 yr old. About a year before
her second child, she filed for divorce, went into canceling. On New Years she called me and said she was pregnant. I thought she wasn't having sex anymore.
She told me it happened on Thanksgiving.
I told her I was eating turkey. "Mom your not very supportive" she said. Well fast forward her marriage is still not healthy.
It is hard to know she lives "numb" in her relationship. Well, hang in there. My prayers for you and your family.

Love the joke about turkey. It hurts to see our children make poor choices, but then it is her choice. All you can do is tell her that you love her and will help her in times of need. Thank goodness, my daughter decided never to have children. Hubby hoped she would change her mind. Thanks for sharing your story and the prayers. I'm still learning not to let my own happiness depend on someone else. :-)

I like that last statement, about happiness.

It's very uncomfortable being in someone's home to stay for any period of time. I never ever want to again...relatives or not. I'm too set in my ways. And my son is with a girl now who's sort of spoiled and opinionated, and yep, she's slowly but surely changing my son to be like her. Sam used to eat everything I fixed for dinner. Now, if SHE doesn't like it, he doesn't either and they go out. Leaving me to fume. Lol! Families. We can't pick them. Great writing Shari, I do think of Frank and you a lot and I hope things are going smoothly for you both. x

Thanks for your warm wishes. Love does change people. Spouses come first, like or not. Believe it or not, Nichole finally came for a visit-with Jeff, on course, but the shoe is on the other foot now. Nichole's been working on his politically incorrect social behavior. I'll write about if eventually.

This work has reached the exceptional level

This is so filled with details that reveal so much about Jeff and your reaction to him it deserves six stars. Sounds like he is perpetually in his teen-age years. I can't imagine watching the films, and that his friends seemed to enjoy them shows that they're right there on his level. I wouldn't begrudge Nicole her dogs, after all, she has to put up with Jeff and needs some decent company. I admire your restraint for not lighting into Jeff for his insensitivity. Maybe there should be a warning on films that are not suitable for mature adults. Great detail in this. The readers really get the picture. judi

I like the idea of a reverse warning. LOL
Someday I'll ask him why he felt it was okay.
Things are changing in their lives and I'll post that soon. They definitely both love each other. Thanks oodles for the six. My ego needs this right now.

Once again, I can just drop in anywhere and just read right along. LOL
You're first paragraph is totally engaging and reads like one from the contests I ran a while back. "Write a first paragraph that will make the reader want to keep reading". Yep, that's what it does. I can't believe anyone would find that movie appropriate for anything other than a few drunken idiots and I didn't like it under those circumstances either. HAHAHA!! Another great chapter. My plastic is melting. :)) mikey

Yep, I can see you watching the antics on Jackass while drunk, it sounds-- and you didn't like it then either. It's over kill of cruel humor.

Jeesh. Just mean and crude and NOT funny. :))

Good God, Shari, this chapter is beyond belief. Did you and Frank really sit through the entire movie?

Now I'm even more curious as to how your visit went. I sent you a quick email to let you know I remembered it. Hugs, Lou

We sat through the entire movie, so fearful of setting off resentments again. Umm, just check my e-mail and didn't see it. I'll have to backtrack.
I'm going to a hypnotist this afternoon to hopefully rid myself of the stress of caring for hubby. He's still in the moderate stages, however, and loving as always. It's just me!

Thanks for the brief recap as always, Spit.
It's been awhile...

Then three of his high school buddies, all bachelors, paraded in. None had nine to five jobs. All were wanna-be actors..............Now, now, Shari. You can't always judge a book by it's cover, or so it's been said. Still, sometimes, the cover does give you a pretty good indication of what awaits inside. Wouldn't you agree? LOL...

. Like him, she now had an allergy to cats and preferred dogs, even spending big bucks to adopt two pedigreed pugs. Zombie and vampire movies replaced her delight in lightweight comedies such as The Love Boat and The Brady Bunch. The LOVE BOAT!?! The BRADY BUNCH!??!.......... Good God, Shari. It would be pure torture to have to sit through that sort of drab drivel. As for cats, I don't have much use for 'em myself.

They do make for some damn good hor d'oeuvres, though. Heh-heh...

Another great chapter featuring some very good writing.

~Dean
