Wow! You are quite the talented writer. It is obvious you've been doing this for a while now...and successfully! I love how you compared the mythological Sankofa to your mother. How you showed more than one example of how they are much in the same when it comes to taking care of their young. I also love that it was released on Mother's Day. I know that your mother must be truly proud of everything you've accomplished, and that you are carrying on her legend. Beautiful write. I have no critiques...xoLeslie

    Yes, Leslie, I did not realize I posted this on Mother's Day until late. It is appropriate. My mother passed four years ago and I have not written a poem about her until now. I needed that distance in time to see her more clearly and her impact on me. I am thrilled at my comparison of Sankofa to my mother. Yes, she is truly proud of my accomplishments. Thank you for your review.

This is absolutely lovely, Sis Cat. Wonderful tribute to Mother's Day and mothers everywhere.

What a descriptive, beautifully tailored verse about your relationship with your own mother in the vein of the Asante Adinkra symbol and myth.

The day my mother died,
I found her poems strewn in her room,
like feathers in the nest of some exotic bird;
I retrieved and read her poems,
and carried my mother's dreams into the future.

Perfect. I see nothing to change at all.

Best to you in the contest,
Senyai

    Thank you, Senyai, for your generous, six star review. I did not intend this to be a Mother's Day tribute to mothers everywhere, but it is. I am under the gun to submit this to the contest next week and I had to post it this week on FanStory in time to get feedback and corrections. It is not a coincidence that I post it on Mother's Day. I am glad you found my poem to be "descriptive, beautifully tailored verse about your relationship with your own mother in the vein of the Asante Adinkra symbol and myth."

    Thank you for your review and for wishing me the best in the contest.

Your description of the mythological bird is stunning and I found your line "for it is not forbidden to fetch the forgotten" a particularly telling transition into the imagery of your mother dancing the steps of the past to keep them alive. A fine poem.
