So nicely done here, Ric, with the setup that leads us to think a crime has been committed. The incongruity/situational irony of the last line simultaneously releases tension and makes us smile.

Your words enable us to envision so well. I am amazed at the scope of what you are able to accomplish here in a mere 50 words.

Thank you so much, Debbie Noland, for taking time to read my 50 word story. Your kind words and generous review are greatly appreciated. Yes, wouldn't you know it. those darn police wouldn't even let the poor pooch enjoy his steak. They spent the whole day interrogating him; but of course, they didn't learn much. :-)

50 words is really not a lot to build suspense. You achieved this really well. Great story leaves you thinking ahh, good luck in the contest.

This is a clear winner by
all standards. You've encapsulated
so much with so few words. It
flows easily, captured your reader
from start and held on to the
finish. Great word choices coupled
with you obvious dry sense of humor
made this a most enjoyable read. Kudos, Lora

Thank you so much, Lora, for reading my 50 word story. Your kind and generous review have made my day. Us with dry senses of humor never really know how the listeners and readers will react unless we can see them or they are nice enough to tell us. Your kind words and generous review are why I write. It's never about competition or contests, it's to make someone smile or feel good. Of course, there are those occasions when we can't be good, so when I am bad, I want to be really bad, with maybe something in the horror genre. Thanks again for this great review. :-)

LOL...who called the police? This story has a cute surprise ending, so much fuss over a dog eating a bloody porterhouse. You really did a good job writing a complete story in just 50 words. The story was interesting and well written, good luck with the contest.

Haaaa, so this is where the bloody-rare porterhouse came from. I'll be damned if this ain't a terrific story told in very few words, Ric.

Super job all around my friend. I guess this means you didn't win the contest, but it's still a winner in my books.

Love it,

Gloria

Nope, I didn't win the contest, but I kept close company with some outstanding writers, which is a win for a struggling neophyte. As always, I can't thank you enough for your kind words that give me a giant boost. I mean, you are one of the few who can remember me from when I wanted to quit and give up every day, and may have if not for your encouraging words. Thanks for reading my 50 word story and your special six-star review. :-)

This is a case of things not being what they look like. You create a lot of tension with what seems to be a serious crime and the police reacting to it. The punch line is very funny and you set it all up in 50 words.

HAAAAAAAAA!!! It's you, my friend. I had heard rumours you could write. Well, I'll be damned if they're not true. This was a scream. Clever as can be. Damn close to winning too. Now, keep writing. No excuses, you can obviously write. WELL DONE! mikey

Thank you so much, Mikey, for reading my 50 word story. I don't enter many contests. I just happened to stumble across a couple that I though wouldn't be too hard, a 50 word, and a 200 word contest. Boy, am I stupid. There were 19 minutes before closing on the 200 word piece, which isn't much time to write, find a picture, enter, and post; but, I made it with a minute to spare. Kinda like sex in an elevator at closing time. Hectic, but so exciting. Knowing damn well that when the door opens and people come rushing in, your partner will be saying, "I haven't done anything yet." And all you can offer is, "Don't blame me, you started the same time I did." I never expected the heavyweights to fool with these short stories, so I entered, and wound up hooking Mikey and Dean, and a host of other fine writers. DAMN IT! Your story was the first one when I clicked in on the entries, and all I could think was, huh, second place isn't so bad. Congratulations again on the WIN! I'm just glad to be rubbing elbows with the big boys. :-)

Hi Ric, not an easy task and you managed to pack a whole story into fifty words. Very well done and quite funny as well. Good luck in the contest. All the best. Ulla:))

I like both pictures.

When I read this, I was totally surprised by the ending. You certainly packed a lot of story with just 50 words. I can just imagine all those faces when the dog comes out. LOL

Thank you for sharing. 8-)
