Good one, Sandy. You brought more than a smile. I am still laughing at the way the wave came in and did the number on the old boy.I laughed so 'ard; you tried to stand, then down you went again.
In stitches, I was laughin' that I got a bloomin' pain!

Well done.

This is a different take on the picture and one that I loved above all others so far.
I laughed and laughed and it truly made my day.
Excellent rhyme and flow and story line

Hi Sandra. A really good poem and you did okay with the cockney accent. I was able to "get it" right away. I enjoyed how you started off with pa looking at the snap and going on throughout his monologue. Unique and interesting concept. Marilyn

Thank you, Marilyn. This picture took me ages to come up with a poem, and I went in a completely different way to when I first started it. I'm glad you liked it, thank you! :) Sandra xxx

Hi Sandra. That's what happened to me, too. It's not your usual sunny beach picture. So I went with humor and eagerness to get back to New York.

A wonderful picture Sandra. I can see how you would come up with this delightful story. Loved learning the new words. Not sure I could eat the Whelks and Winkles though. lol

Well done

Blessings
Janet

My father loved whelks, but I loved the winkles, lol, with loads of vinegar on them. I'm so glad you enjoyed my take on the picture, Janet, thank you so much. :) Sandra xx

Wow, Sandra, this is an amazing interpretation of the picture and so funny as well. I was laughing with you and too bad if your ol' friend couldn't see the mirth. Loved it. Great imagination. All the best. Ulla xxx

I'm so glad you had a laugh, I loved writing this one. Thank you so much, my friend. I had a long chat with Alexis yesterday, she's been busy with paying guests. Shame she had to spend it all on repairs. LOL. She will make her fortune again, one day. Thanks again for the great review, my friend. xsx Sandra

Oh you did so well, with the Cockney accent. Loved it. Yeah, Alexis told me about her spending. But as you I believe she will make a success of it all. Hugs. Ullaxxx

Hi, Sandra.

'We 'ad to use the safety pins that 'eld me knickers up' - Hahaha - just the sort of thing a scallywag young Cockney girl would say.

You use the Cockney dialect perfectly - I'm sort of 'arf a one, Dearie. ;-)

Maybe, 'arse', instead of, 'bum', but of course that doesn't rhyme. ;-)

You start 15th and last lines with an emphasised syllable, departing from the otherwise iambic meter, but that's minor, and the flow is still excellent.

Last line, MAYBE, 'moody', instead of, mis'ry'.

I laughed and smiled throughout the recollections of this real-life day trip.

Are you SURE you ain't a Cockney? ;-)

Well worth my sixer.

Cheers, Ray xx

No, I'm not a cockney, I would love to be able to speak it properly though, my mother-in-law was one, and I loved how she spoke. She never actually called a spade a spade, it was always something that rhymed with the word and I was left to guess what she meant, I loved it. But she wasn't around long enough for me to learn much. Thank you, Ray, I was gobsmacked to get a six from you, that has put a big smile on my face, you don't give them easily. Big hugs! :) Sandra

It's my bet that it's happened more times than we can count, and just looking at the picture and the thought of eating any fresh sea food has my undivided attention. Thanks for sharing another of your fine poems. :-)

I for one love your Cockney Humor.Sandra
The Rhyme and Meter are very well done.
I swear what you were saying sounded so real it
took me away for a minute or two. Isn't that the
way of it though? Not many people can laugh at
themselves. xxx Well done! Nancy

Aww, thanks, Nancy. I love the cockney slang, I just wish I know more of it. Graham's mum was cockney, but I can't remember much of it. I'm glad you saw the funny side. How is young Nancy? Any more news? xsx Sandra

This is the most fun interpretation of the picture I have read so far. The imagery of the big wave dousing him is fun one - and it does happen lol. Nice flow to this poem

LOL!! My mother-in-law was a cockney, Jim, she used to have me in stitches, but I couldn't remember many of the slang terms she used. I loved your review, and I could read it! LOL!!! Thanks, Jim! xxx
