Wow, you are right - the picture does say it all. However, your words are the perfect embellishment. I especially love your last stanza,
"If evil comes and takes the sun
with all the death it brings
I hope that I will be the one
who stands up tall and sings"
What a perfect summary!

Thank you so much. That picture truly inspired me . As a child I would sing on my way home from school, imaging the doors would open and everyone would come out singing the chorus and dancing the steps in my imaginary musical. I picture this child with that spirit.

I have it on good warning, Evil had best leave Captain Jack's Cottage Cheese alone. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a good read.

I have to give you six stars on this! Reading this literally brought tears to my eyes. Written so beautifully and it passes on such important knowledge about life to the reader in a relatively small number of lines. The strength that hope and faith give to a person is immeasurable. You described it so well. So glad you shared. Thank you. Franichm

Thank you so much. The picture is what brought out the poem. Plus, I grew up singing. Walking down the street I would pretend I was in a musical and that all the doors would open and that everyone would know the dance steps. I love life.

Oh, that thought makes me smile. My sister Donna sang and performed in Community Theater. She loved it and was so good at it. She loved life too. Such a positive person!

Hi Poet -

You have made excellent use of rhyme and meter to convey your ideas of hope. This one should be a strong contender in the voting booth. Thanks for sharing.

Good luck!

Kim

When we have hope. We have faith and both together drives fear away. We don't let anything stop us doing what we know is right.

The idea of singing in such circumstances seems so strange but it probably meant a great deal to those who heard her. Under those circumstances if someone can hope to be the one who stands up and sings then that is a fine form of courage, given all the other things they could have hoped for. This is a wellconstructed poem that really sings to me.

thank you, when I would walk home from school I would sing and I wanted all the doors to open and join me in the dance with everyone of them knowing the dance steps. I truly did this every day. I went to music school. I sang opera. i love life.

I loved the subject matter and your rhyming was superb. The questions that you pose are from the ages and I guess they will be answered when our time comes. Until then, I like you will give my last potato.

This is a GREAT entry into the contest and, to me, sounds like a winner! The rhythm and rhyme are awesome and the content is so well noted! I loved it...beginning to end, it was a pleasure to read and review this poem. Had I any sixes left, one would have this poem's name on it. Good luck and God bless. Hugs, Susanne

Hi there, a very poignant poem indeed and one that gives food for thought and most certainly hope. This is a most horrible situation that can be imagined yet the hope prevails. Good luck in the contest. All the best. Ulla:)
