What an extraordinary writing.
I read it before I read the criteria of what the writing was suppose to entail.
WOW...DOUBLE WOW...NO, BETTER MAKE THAT TRIPLE WOW.

Funny thing is I did a bunch of reading on Owls and I created something in FANART...You really should take a peek and read my artist's notes...It is called CHANGING EYES.

This is truly an amazing piece of written work. I love it. I love everything about it. WOW..

thank you, I am going to look up your Owls now. That was one of my first contest wins. It truly encouraged me to keep writing. Ok. Did you do it yet. Have you gone back and printed what you have written to me. It is so good and it flows directly from you. Unedited thoughts pour from your head. I love it. Start with one of those right now. People are going to love, laugh and cry at your stories. Now quit waiting go print and re read them. You need to understand how good they are.

What a great read this was and with the voice of an owl reasoning his existence and respect. I loved it. One of my extra favorite parts are the last three stanzas because here I am looking at my picture screen. Ouch, but so true. Nature is amazing. My only offer of change would be talons over claws in the following lines, but you are a contest winner and I am not, so what do I know?! Have a great weekend.

So I swoop and extend my *claws -> talons
They gave me *claws to pick up my prey -> talons

The legend of the owl is one I have not heard before and I like the layers of meaning in it. On the surface the owl is a bird of prey that lives a nocturnal existence. To me the life lesson it teaches is that life is full of trade offs, like the owl who can see at night had to give up the colors and patterns seen in the day. I like your presentation.

I made the legend up. I just thought the dark holds no colors and wrote it down. It was a great challenge.

Well written provocative piece. The simple voice of nature rings throughout, lending credence to the tale. You have done a superb job bringing this story to life, constructing a simplistic, yet profound wisdom. Thank you. Later, JD

A very interesting and appropriate choice for this Legend Contest -some thought-provoking observations 'If I was to gain my powers I was no longer allowed to see the sun'

Magnificent! I personally love owls and collect statues and paintings of the. This bird has so many different meanings depending on the culture.
A fine job of spacing your poem and the use of parallel structure.

They listen to false day on their picture machines.
A unique way to put it.

But if they were to walk in the wilderness
On a full moon night
They would hear me calling

asking who they are.

What a powerful ending!

This was such a fun story to read!! I was intrigued by owls before knowing how legendary they are! You told such a great story. I wondered through the whole thing if this legend was based on an old tribal legend and you just conveyed it beautifully or if this was a legend you made up all your own. The fact that I couldn't say one way or the other means you did your job well! Congrats on the win!! xoLeslie

I actually made it up. However, when a fan story review came up one man who is Indian told me how in his tribe the Owl was a symbol of death , asking who would be next. So I added that to my story. Now I truly see how people can help me on this fan story site.

Yes! In such a short amount of time I've learned so much about writing and even about myself. It's pretty awesome :) And so is your writing! I look forward to reading more :)

Congratulations on your win.
I can see why you did.
This first person write from the perspective of the owl was beautifully written.
I felt like he was talking to me, and by the end, I knew him and why he is only out at night. Excellent personification.

Thank you so much. In one of my reviews a fan story critic told me about the owl being a sign of death to the indians. Because of that I added it to the story. All of you help me so much.
