Please make this required reading for politicians running for anything from here on out. Politics as it is meant to be. I thoroughly enjoyed this. Great job.

Hi there, good take on this and should do well in the contest. A bit different from the rest which in itself is a good sign. Ulla

Great, punchy dialogue and excellent characterisation. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this, particularly as I am a retired teacher.

Well done. It's wise that you brought this down to a more
personal, local aspect. Everyone else went with the national view.
I like that you looked for a different avenue.

Forgive me, but I think this could use some tightening.
A few too many dialogue tags, and unnecessary motion.
Just one man's opinion.

Best of luck.

Peace, Lee

An excellent and enjoyable story, the majority of the public take for granted. Unfortunately, I live in a city where the mayor appoints the board, and you know how that turns out. Great story, a good piece of educational entertainment.

I must say a much softer shoe than what is burning the Tv . I will be glad when all of this over with. Sick of politicts. Sounds as if you were picked for some reason. Nice story.

What a nice entry for the political flash contact, Rod. Such a timely reminder that, in the chaos of the current national political scene, there is still a place for grass roots politics. We belong to Missouri Farm Bureau, and that is the basis of our organization.

You are able to build these characters so realistically in this short space with your use of dialogue and description. You leave us with the hope that it is still possible, in a system where too much goes against the grain of common decency, for a truly good guy to win and for democracy to work as it should.

This piece and Folgers in my cup have made for a pleasant breakfast this morning.

All good flash fiction needs lines like this towards the end:He pointed at my lawn's bare spots. "Mine's an old-fashioned grass-roots, door-to-door campaign." Witty and right on topic, as it was his winning ways with gardening advice that got the narrator to listen in the end. Hell, this old fella was so plausible I'd have voted for him in the end. Having chaired school boards and been a school principal myself, I'd endorse everything he said. That the listener voted for him and won gave a feel good ending to well devised political story. That you say the community won, was icing on the cake. I like your novel approach to this topic, writing about a grassroots' political campaign at the grassroots level of winning endorsement. Big change from the 'Trump' bashing seen everywhere else, yet as valid a political flash fiction as any. Extremely well written. Best of luck.

This election was fun to read in comparison
with the other one where people call each
other names, insult women, people of color
and change comments when he realizes it was
wrong.
