This is such a sad problem in our society where the elderly are left alone to suffer and die. Native Americans value their elders and this doesn't happen because the rest of the tribe surrounds and supports them, valuing their wisdom. Another well written poem, my friend~Debbie

Thank you so much, Debbie for those kind comments and your lovely string of shining stars. They are greatly appreciated. Yes, a sad problem, and I agree, Native Americans do it right. Why can't we? Warmest regards, Marijke :o)

Hello dear friend who has returned to FS! It is wonderful to be back in touch. I'm not often on FS... took a couple years break and have come back again just lately.
Your poem is great. The message in it is so real to me because for the last couple of months I have been looking after a sweet little old lady who is 98 years old... she is frail and forgetful but well loved and well provided for so she is one of the few that age who are so lucky. Nevertheless I am greatly relieved that today is my last day here in Victoria British Columbia Canada and I will be flying home to family and friends tomorrow. Thanks for sharing your wise words which are put together so beautifully. Big hugs, Aggie (W ^-^)

Hello Aggie, how wonderful to hear from you. I wasn't sure if you were still here. So many have left (unfortunately some have passed), but it has been wonderful to catch up with so many 'old friends'. Thank you, my friend, for your very kind and generous rating on this rather sad situation. It is a fact that so many people end up dying of a broken heart. Have a safe trip home tomorrow, Aggie, and I hope that I will hear from you more often - both as a writer/author/poet and a reviewer. Warmest regards and safe journey, Marijke :o)

Your poem is sad and an all true happening everywhere. It is also written with good rhyme and flow. I really like the picture of the lone flower, too. How appropriate.

The blackground adds a solemn note to your words.

Good job and thanks for sharing.

[idea: yes, I have 1 every blue moon--I would skip at least 1 line down at the beginning and 1 or more at the end to kind of frame your poem. Then it does not have that last line resting on the text box. I do this all the time. I understand you may not want to do this. So, file this in file 13=trash].

Good job and thanks for sharing and caring.

Hi there,

A very good piece you have written here. The language is simple and stripped of rhetoric which makes it all the more powerful. A sad but true commentary.

All the best
GMG

This is a very emotional read with the words you've used, the story you've told and a particularly poignant final verse -
Jack I'm coming home tonight - leaves me with goosebumps.
Very well done, a lovely read.

I think you captured the loneliness and despair of an older surviving spouse very well in this poem. Things do changes as we age and hopes and dreams become the past. Well done, Marijke

This is a sad poem. I think it is sad when one couple member leaves the other behind and you have captured that sadness in your poem. I liked it very much and thank you for sharing.
