Excellent point Fiona!

I know the gossip rags have been around forever, so I'm sort
of used to people falling for that clap-trap as if it were truth. . .
but these days even "legitimate" news sources sensationalize,
editorialize and fabricate! The cult of celebrity and the influence
of the internet/cell phone culture (not to mention photoshop)
have combined to create an entire misperception of where the
truth lies these days!!

Thank you for your good advice in these quatrains about truth. I particularly liked your line that publications and television programs often "Don't let a story get tainted by truth" since they are motivated by sales and ratings. I hope you have a productive new week- Joan

Oh, how very true. I got so sick of TV and the slanted point of view that I turned it off before New Years and haven't turned it back on. A well stated observation of the world and a nice addition to your book, my friend~Debbie

I enjoyed your poem. The topic is so current, and you expressed it well. You are right. One must not believe everything without first knowing facts etc. The media does exactly as you wrote. Good job. Your lines flow well and tell an important story in poem form. Thanks for sharing.

I recognised Angelheart's artwork immediately. It complements your poem perfectly. I completely agree with what you wrote in this poem. It is good to be cynical as media often bring a twisted truth.

Hi Marijke
Welcome back to FS, it's good to know you are well!

I love the title of your poem and I heartily agree with your viewpoint! Your free verse has a good flow and is a pleasure to read. I am even cynical of news I read or hear ion our mainstream media. Media is run by people eager to be the first to report, sometimes that is all they care about.
All the best,
Rodger

Hi Rodger, nice to be back... it's been a while. Thanks for your comments and your observations. Yes... it is all about the mighty dollar! And the notoriety. their moment of glory. Thanks again, Rodger, and I hope to come across more of your work - look forward to it. Warmest regards, Marijke :o)

Hi Marijke this is indeed an interesting thought provoking verse you've created today. Yes, it is certainly healthy to question what you hear or read. So much crap can fill magazines, newspapers and blast out on TV screens. IF we were to believe everything we read , heard or watched goodness knows where our minds would be at.. People who fill the magazines and papers are paid to do so and of course pump up the ' reader base'. salespersons will find all sorts of stuff to fill heads with if it means they increase their readers' interest.
" some current affairs shows on tv don't let a story get tainted by truth."
oh yeah.. great work my friend. you've done it again. yay. happy smiles coming your way, hugs mel xxx

Hi again, Mel. Thank you so much for this wonderful review. Yes, so many take these stories as the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth! The only time I look at magazines is when I am at doctor or dentist waiting room. I flick through and it reminds me very quickly why I don't waste my money on this trash. And I find it difficult to find anything of quality in them. and as for 'trial by media' ... don't get me started! Oh, well, hopefully others will wake up, but not too sure. Thanks for letting me know I am on the right track, Mel. I appreciate your kind reviews and comments. I always look forward to them. Have a great evening and a wonderful week ahead. Warmest regards and miles of Tassie smiles... Marijke :o)

Hi Marijke. A well written poem again with a big message. Indeed never believe what you read or hear. A story has always two sides and we always hear and see the bad one. It all is based on sensation and making money of someone's misery.
Your muse is making many hours, I love that my friend. Fietje xxxx

Very true, and well thought out. Although I prefer rhyming you described your thoughts very well without it. I liked the fact that it is not overdone with a lot of uncommon language, but simple words that get the point across.

I can certianly relate to that, I use to believe every thing on the TV and what Doctors told me then later in life I realised that nothing is carved in store.

Thanks, and yes, I was much more gullible when young. Now I refuse to read trashy magazines and don't watch too many Current Affairs, and when I do, that cynicism clicks in. Warmest regards, Marijke :o)
