Words cannot even begin to express what I am feeling at this very moment.

I can see why you won.

Congrats to you.

I must give you six stars....one for each emotion it has invoked deep inside of me.

THANK YOU.

I wrote that the week my mother died. It has a melody with it . My freshmen girls sang it on our first concert that year. They loved it and It has become a tradition to teach it to the new girls every year.

Hi Jusylee, I am not in the least bit surprised that this beautiful poem took first place in this competition.
Wonderful ABCB rhyming scheme, with excellent flow and meter adding to a good rhythm my friend.

This is really beautify and profound. It has an air of mystery about it. It is profound in the sense that it causes the reader to pause and think about what the poet is suggesting and how it can change their outlook. Loren

Beautiful and sad. You have captured many heartfelt thoughts and concerns of your own Mothers love and your love for your own children. I don't believe however much notice is 'given', any of us are able to truly accept a loved one's passing.

Taking a look back or forward can be a cleansing for the soul in many ways, like looking into that mirror of the past or future. We find things to keep and things to let go, either way we learn and grow from the person in the mirror. Enjoyed this to the fullest.

Interesting that you should write this. I've read about one practice where after someone dies, all mirrors should be covered for a few days, but I can't remember why.
Maybe the answer lies somewhere in this lyrical well-crafted poem.
Since mirrors show a reverse image and therefore not a true reflection, could we trust it to tell the truth?
Interesting commentary here.

I also find your commentary interesting. I hadn't heard about that practice of covering mirrors. When I wrote this I was thinking of falling in the mirror and then looking out to see how others see us. Thank you for your thoughtful response.

Thank you so much. This is actually a song a wrote. I wish you could hear it with music. I teach choir and my freshmen girls sang it at a concert. So many of the parents loved it. Thank you.

Congradulations on this win : )
You've done a great job capturing some of the uncertainty we feel, and the poignant questions we struggle over at the loss of a parent. I love that you use the mirror theme to express the connection you have with your mother, and in turn with your children. Well done. CtVR
