Let's just say, that panic wouldn't help the situation. :-)

The condo looks nice, I have had my purse stolen twice over the years, so I can relate to your story. The price on the condo is expensive, but I know the area is pricy.

Never had my purse stolen, but have left it in a restaurant once or twice. Fortunately, some people are honest.

It's good that Frank was still able to make the trip to California to see Nicole's new condo. She must be doing quite well to afford it. Losing your pocketbook--that is scary. I have bad dreams about losing mine. The only time I actually lost mine was at Kroger. When I started to get into the car, I realized I didn't have it. I went to the Customer Service counter and said, "Some fool lost her handbag." The clerk asked me to identify it, which I did, and fortunately a staffer had found it when he was bringing in shopping carts. You leave us in suspense about what happened with your pocketbook. Hope it turned out okay. Excellent details in this. You provide just enough information and keep to the subject. judi

Thanks, judi. Isn't it wonderful to know there is still honesty in the universe. Love the approach to the SCS.LOL

You're very welcome. By the by, I sent the article about Trump's "Think System" to the newspaper, and It was published yesterday. judi

Wow! Even my own eyebrows arched quite high at the cost of that condo - especially after her saying they couldn't afford the houses that were 200,000. Or maybe I misunderstood what she said about that.

Anyway, I THINK the new house is a good thing? I'm waiting to see! *smile*

THe house was 300,000 but I'm guessing. I think it was more. A condo was better for her living style. Yard work? No way could I see her finding time to do that. She makes good money but works long hours and even is looking for another job that will pay more. Jeff is a tax write-off. LOL

I am really enjoying this story and can't wait to find out what happens next. I hate that feeling when you have lost something so important, especially a wallet, credit cards etc. I can feel your pain though you tried not to panic. I know I would have panic and my husband would have said , "just calm down". Keep writing!

I really didn't feel more than a slight worry. What's the point? I just start thinking of alternatives.

Oh, what a horrible feeling that is, Shari. I've left my wallet behind on the counter of convenience stores on more than one occasion, or simply misplaced it here at home, and that "sinking feeling" one gets when they've realized what they've done is enough to make one toss their cookies.

Five-hundred grand...WOW! That's ten times fifty thousand dollars, you understand that, right? (LOL) Fifty grand is what I paid for my house way out here in the boondocks. It had two bathrooms, three large bedrooms, and a walk-in closet in the mater bedroom, skylights over the jetted garden tub in the master bath, an enclosed back deck with a sunroom adjacent to it. It also sat on two acres of pristine farmland. Of course, once my wife left I had to sell, so all of that "luxury" went by the wayside.

Only you know how this fairytale palace all worked out for the happy couple in the end. I endeavor to keep following along so I will too.

Great writing as always, Spit...

My panic comes when I can't find my car keys! I have a smaller purse now where things don't get buried! Oh, your house sounds like Paradise. It sounds as if you were stuck with alimony or child support.

    Thanks for the ongoing interest.
reply by Dean Kuch on 12-Mar-2016
No, my kids are both grown, Shari, so there's no alimony or child support involved. I'm on full disability because of my failing heart, so I couldn't afford all of the bills on my own. I have an implanted cardio defibrillator so I'm not even supposed to be driving, for obvious reasons. My heart pumps at just 20% of the capacity of a healthy human heart. The beat is often erratic. To look at me--my outward appearance however, you would never guess that anything is wrong with me.
It just goes to prove that old saying. "You can't always judge a book by its cover."

Twenty percent of a healthy heart and an erratic beat. Can you sue your ex for insisting on constant sex thus exhausting your heart? :-)
So do you live in a basement now with your skull and raven?

It's amazing how our bodies can cover up serious problems.

Just started Ashley Bell by Koontz. So far, so good. I wasn't a fan of Odd Thomas.

    Hugs but not too hard.

Actually I live with her Uncle now. He took me in as we've grew very close over the years, almost like brothers. He has a very nice home just five miles from my old one.
As far as sex goes, she couldn't keep up with me, failing heart or not, heh-heh. It's going to do me in one of these days. Sex, I mean. But what a way to go, 'ey?

Shari,
You did another excellent job with this piece. The story grabbed my interest immediately and held it to the end. Your transitions are well done, your dialogue is real and believable, not forced. Watch switching your verb tenses from past to present. You did it a few times and even in the same sentence. One instance you wrote, 'Everyone but me exchanged (past) skeptical looks. Outside the shop, Jeff and Frank looked (past) through the open trash cans. I surveyed (past)the park bench where Nichole and I had sat while waiting (present) for the men.' It's easy to make the present verb into the past. Example: . . . Nichole and I sat and waited for the men. Everything else is great.

Thanks, Suzanne, for citing particulars. I fixed the tense problem by deleting the last half of the sentence. Sneaky, huh.

Hi Shari! Wow, a 500K apt.??????????? I could buy an estate with over a hundred acres for that! In Tenn. or Virginia or someplace like that. Wow again. Anyway, another great post with your wonderful dialogue that always takes us into your world. Ps...the worst thing about apts. is hearing other people doing things. I'd rather live in a van down by the river. :/ LOL! hug!

If you own property near LA, it's worth a fortune. My daughter's smart enough to figure she could afford it what with Jeff as a tax write-off. LOL.
Nichole says the place is pretty sound proof. Should be for that kind of money. What I hated was the smell of other people's bad cooking!
