Michael this is an interesting story and I wish you the best in the contest. I am posting today an essay about a mission for the homeless and their ministry of dramatizing true stories of people who had lives so messed up and how those lives were changed. Patricia

WOW! What a story! Six months in a homeless shelter and you actually seemed to enjoy your time there. Very interesting. You have given a very realistic picture of the types of people who were in the shelter. The experience I'm sure is priceless for you and very enriching as a writer and as a person.
Very well written. I really enjoyed the read. Thank you for sharing. Kudos.

Blessings,
Anabella

Yes, it wasn't so traumatic for me as I knew I could get out almost any time really. It was an experience and I truly met some interesting people and gained a lot of insight that has stayed with me. Wow. what an awesome review. Thanks so much. mikey

I knew I saved this for a reason. Wow, Michael. I didn`t realize you were there that long. That is genius about charity. So true, how would one be known as a philanthropist if they truly were one. Well, I could go on forever here. One of your best pieces. You are the best damn person I ever met. Hands down. Awesomw piece. NG

Yeah. I kind of liked it there at least for a little while. I'm glad you liked that little blurb. That just popped out and I thought it was on the money too.
Awe. You're too damn sweet to say that. What was that you said?? You're pretty awesome yourself, I think I've told you that before though. mikey

Bravo Mikey! What an honest post. I admire your spunk and kindness too. I've been homeless...more than once. And now at 61 years OLD...I fear losing all I've acquired again, because of 'retirement'. I have a house, car, small savings and two horses and a dog. It could all be gone tomorrow. Kudos to you for doing what you do and I hope you never have to be homeless again. I personally didn't like living in a truck with a child and two dogs and no topper. :/ hugs. susan

That just angers the hell out of me thinking of you homeless. An artist should never be homeless. See? My instinct is to tell you to call me if something happens. :)) You don't do meth do you? That's my only rule. HAHAHA! I'm supposed to be retired. The not working part seems to be escaping me so far. Thanks so much. What a great review. I hope you like crazy people, I've got a houseful. They're fun actually and inspiration for great stories!! mikey

What a sweet person you are Mikey. I am alone no matter where I go. What I do. I'm just miserable all the time. But you're kindness resonates. I hope you are always happy. hug...

"morgue slab cool" good description of the topic.

The felony seems to be guilty by association.

The time in the homeless shelter seemed to be peace in the valley.

It is a crying shame how some Veterans in this country are treated after all they give to it in the first place. Some of them can not even get VA benefits promised to them when they enlist, even with an Honorable Discharge. Now a days VA benefits are not based on military service, but on how much money you currently make. That is a crock of crap for these Veterans!

This story is entertaining, insightful, and enlightening.

Question? While you were homeless who paid for your house the lady and kids lived in? Probably you, in order to maintain it.

I'd paid the lease up for the year. So it was free and clear for them and my stuff as well. I was shocked to find Veterans in the shelter, Brett. And they were on the streets too many of them unable to care for themselves as a direct result of their service. It was heartbreaking and shameful. A lot of people in our little community do what we can. Sadly it's way more than our government does. Thanks for the great response. mikey

Sometimes as a writer I read an article that forces reassessment on my part. I've just read such an article. YOURS.

To me this story is one the Lord could have told as a parable when here on earth. It tells of giving without seeking in response.

I look at Michael Cahill with admiration and as an example we should all copy

Dear Michael, This is really gut wrenching stuff. You have a laconic, laid back way of narration which diffuses much of the pain you have seen, and shared with so many. Not your own pain so much as the empathy with the lost souls whose needs you have been able to meet. This is perhaps where you are meant to be. The people who need another person's clear eyes and unfuddled head to help with their day to day issues. As for "Only finding a few jobs" and, " filling out a few forms" etc. All I can say, is
You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink. So if those guys weren't worthy of your generosity and efforts, they would still be in the same mess you found them in.
So, take a little credit, you have made a difference. Well done Good onya Mate cheers Cass
