Wow! You have my utmost respect. We have an incredible amount of homeless here in Calgary. A large amount of people are mentally ill and it's so sad our government hasn't come up with any solutions to help them. They seem to talk about it a lot. Then just when they had a new place for the homeless to stay, Trudeau brings in refugees and kicks the homeless to the streets. Banging my head on the wall in frustration.
Anyway, I wish you well in the contest.

I'm sad to here it's a problem there as well though I'm sure it isn't as dire as it is here in the U.S. But, there shouldn't be anyone homeless. There's too much wealth in the world for it to be acceptable. Thanks so much for your response and your heart. mikey

As I read your story, I was reminded of an article I wrote a few years back. It was based on the experience of Thomas Minehan, during the Depression era. He gave up his work to live among the runaways and homeless. He wrote a book titled, "Boy and Girl Tramps of America," which profiles the day-to-day lives of these young people.
Your story made a strong connection (for me) with his experiences. I enjoyed the technique used adding your thoughts and comments throughout as you wove the seriousness with some lighthearted aspects. This was a very interesting story/topic.

wow this is an amazing story and I think you are an amazing guy to have done the things you have. Most people would have turned their backs rather than put there selves forward to help those who need it without some kind of gain.

Sometimes you just find yourself where you happen to be. It's just circumstance. Most of the folks I encountered were helpful and everyone looked out for each other. In many ways it was a more trustworthy slice of humanity than the real world. Of course, it was just as real as any other part of the world I suppose. You're too kind. Thanks so much, mikey

= As well, a product of a crime that he'll never outlive, nor I, or the family will.
= Most important his victim's life was forever shattered.
= Residual affect of what we do in life weighs in so much on why peeps are homeless, why they do what they do, how they do it.
= Not always is it about losing a job, as has your story revealed.
= Sometimes it's just more appealing to lose one's self in anonymity, safer.
= We lose ourselves and we don't have to face the uncomfortable, or do what is expected, as ordained by society.
= Excellent write, my firend. Have to through you a virtual ... I'm tapped already.

I ran into all kinds. Indeed there's quite a few who embrace the lifestyle and have no desire for the responsibility of the real world. Virtual works for me just as well. :))

If our govt would spend less money and time f-ing around with bureaucracy's meaningless paperwork and stupid rules, people would actually get help. Now it's all about the system. It lives. It feeds on the helpless. And it's gotten too big to kill.

Ain't that the truth. And my God the paperwork and bureaucracy. It was unbelievable what a vet had to go through for the simplest thing. Reams of paper to get some eye glasses. And facilities miles and miles away for vets in wheelchairs with no income. Just crazy. A couple vets died needlessly while I was there. Heartbreaking. Thanks for stopping by. I'll try and sneak by and review. You are tearing the place up with killer stuff as usual. :)) mikey

This is a fine true story. It really grabbed me. I have been so near so many times. It's frightening. One little bit of SPAG I found was "blossums". It's blossoms - even in the US according to Merriam Webster.

This was a wonderful story, it does sound nice for a change not having to worry, being a mom of 3 sons and a demanding hubby, i may just check a shelter out in the near future, after all I am a no frills kind of gal. hahah

It does have a strange sense of freedom. But of course that's for those of us who can easily return to the real world. I think I would have had a different outlook if I didn't have options. No frills, eh? That's a great selling point. HAHAHA! mikey
