I applaud you for quitting smoking. My mom smoked all my life. She tried to quit many times, but one weekend they visited family that didn't allow her to smoke. She figured she went without that whole weekend she could quit cold turkey, and she did! Now if only I could lose weight as easily as that lol!
Best wishes in this contest!

I was drawn to your poem as I am thinking about quitting myself. It was nice to read a positive way of looking at it not being told and shown the usual dangers and ways to scare you to quit. So a well written inspiring poem.

This is a fantastic poem on quitting smoking. I quit 35 years ago. Four of my siblings died in last two years from smoking. It was well written and the image complimented the action of your verse. Glad your free of the habit.

Congratulations my friend, I'm at the yo-yo stage at the moment, it's a bad habit and it needs to be kicked but the law of procrastination takes over :(
Well done and best wishes for the contest.
Bless you
John

Well I'm happy for you, my friend, for having successfully kicked the smoking habit. My husband quit smoking after around thirty years as well, so I can imagine how happy your whole family must be with your achievement :)
Blessings,
Anabella

Congratulations, I quit after 30 years as well and I agree with you it wasn't all that hard. Now quitting drinking is a whole separate story. That was a bitch.

Although I am a non-smoker, anyone who has a bad habit can relate to the dilemmas in this poem. The last line is particularly effective in capturing the way that our addictions ensnare us. A powerful poem in so few words. Well done!

Got to stick with it

Keep patches handy.
Tried e ciggies yet?
Keep breathing the air.
