Excellent take, much enjoyed. A compelling and really a sad read because it is all too true. Great form and conversational tone.

Thank you so much, my friend. Let's hope we keep our paper books for many more years to come. :) Sandra xxx

Thank you so very much, Jackie! The picture is amazing, I loved writing this one for it. What I love about this group is reading all the other takes on it. You certainly came up with a brilliant idea, my friend. Thank you so much for the 6 stars as well!! :) Sandra xxx

When I saw your Title, I thought you would be referring to 'fanstory', Sandra. ;-)

Suitably inspiring artwork.

I don't think you need the apostrophe after 'pages' in 7th line, as it reads correctly as simple plural, to me.

The heptameter reads gret, except for the following line I stumbled on:

The little girl then giggled and said, "Granddad, you are fun'

Maybe something like:

'The little girl then grinned and said, "Oh, Granddad, you are fun'' - also adds an extra 'G' for more alliteration.

Great theme on the decline of the book and the library, and how the different generations relate to it.

Best wishes, Ray xx

Hi Ray, thank you so much for that, I have changed that that word and it does flow so much better now. It's funny how you always manage to just tweak a line every time for me. :) I do like these challenges, they stretch the mind. I've also removed the apostrophe, I am never sure on those. :( Anyway, thank you again, my friend. I really appreciate you! :) Sandra. xxx

This poem hit a special place with me. I had spent a fortune to make the first electronic book, which was about to be released. Yet when only weeks from introduction, there came a Kindle and a Nook, they made my invention the third in a crowd, and soon to be obsolete. Although, for years, I had claimed books were a thing of the past, it wasn't long before I realized how much I missed the musty smell of pages and the flutter as I thumbed through, the feel of what's real, simply a book. Thanks for another of your wonderful poems. :-)

OH, that really must have been awful. So near and then the big boys step in! Isn't that always happening? I can imagine how upset and angry you must have been. Like you, though, I do prefer paper books, the Kindle etc are fine, but they are not the same. There is nothing to compare with holding and feeling a 'real' book. Thank you so much, my friend, for your lovely review and for the 6 stars. And also, for sharing your painful experience with me. xsx Sandra.

Oh, it really wasn't that awful, and I'm sorry if it came across that way. I am not the type to worry about little things like losing out on a venture. As long as we and those we love are healthy, there is always another chance for being happy. Therefore, I seldom flinch at setbacks. :-)

This is lovely. Iambic heptameters to the rescue again - you really know how to make them work and I felt I was left along with grandpa with one foot on the boat and one foot on the jetty about to get very, very wet. You see like him I love the book as as an object but the girl has a point - all those trees. That is why I am about to fall SPLASH!

I do like the heptameter, I can do a lot with those. Thank you so much, Jim, for your lovely review. It is a difficult one, choosing which way to go, but I think one of these years we won't have the choice. I for one, much prefer the paper books to the electronic ones. Don't go getting too wet now! :) Sandra xxx

Oh Sandra - this is a wonderful interpretation of the picture. What is more you have tackled a subject prominent in a lot of people's minds. Should we buy a tablet or stick with page-turning books. What's more you have written all of it in perfect iambic heptameter - a rhyme form I favour very much and when it is written this well I must give a six. Wonderful story poem (I like books, to touch, read and just look at on the shelf LOL). Warm regards Dorothy xxx (Of course they do get a bit dusty LOL)

~Thank you so much, Dorothy. I still like my paper books, but I suppose one day we will have to change. :( Big thank you for the 6 stars, my dear friend! I love the heptameter, and I know you do too. :) xsx Sandra

WONDERFUL poem that would have made no sense ten years ago. The little girl has hundreds of books in her hand, so she doesn't understand her grandfather's preference for paper. Times change. New becomes old. Progress marches on, yet we long for what we've lost, even if not better than what has replaced it. I wonder why that is?

I love your use of heptameter here. Nancy Davis writes in this meter a lot. She says she loves the sound of it, and I agree. It's actually the same as iambic lines of 4,3,4,3, just not separated. You could write it either way, yet they name them differently. Weird, if you ask me, but no one does. :)

I love this meter, you can do so much more with it. Thank you so much, my dear friend. The six stars look so pretty up there! Did you see I came in second in the end for PoM? Big hugs, my friend. :) Sandra xxxx

Yes, I saw you were a close second. Darn those horror fans. You deserved to win that one, but you know guys are. Anyway, still good considering the amount of competition. :)

Yes, I think my winning roll is over, I haven't had one vote on the angels, I am going to retire, I am getting too old for contests, LOL. Well, at least for this week. :) Nancy is an amazing Shakespearean Sonnet writer too, she got me interested in those, but mine aren't really sonnets, there are too many rules in them and I don't work with rules, lol, my sonnets are Sandra Sonnets! LOL. How is the next chapter coming along? I'm glad I'm not the only one flummoxed this time! I am really intrigued as to what is going on with him. You are really good at these short stories. :) xxx

I haven't written the next part yet... spent the day hanging out with Mark since he's not working. He already got a few calls. I think he'll get a job in a month or so. We're fine for a while. Katy just told us she's coming to visit middle of the month. Yay! As for contests, you've done well. I stopped entering long ago, with the rare exception. Oh, btw, I didn't even know your angel poem was in a contest. I gave it a six, so I must have liked it. I don't give many sixes for poetry these days. Since I have a terrible memory, I trusted my six rating and gave you a vote. I'd better get started on part 5 now... might have it posted when you wake up in the morning. :)

The sad part is, all but a few expensive books printed on flax or parchment will disintegrate in a few years. The acid in even the most expensive wood-fiber paper limits their life to no more than a couple of hundred years...I am learning (on Fanstory) to read off a screen. Don't like it much. Firm rhymes and hoptameters...excellent

Sandra, I'm going to have to side with Gramps on this one. I require the feel of paper, and the turning of a page. And I'm pretty sure the publishing industry represents a small threat to the Earth's forests when compared to less literate ventures.

Your rhymes are strong, and your syntax is solid. I wonder if 'puffing' might be more accurate than 'pumping' in the last line. Just a thought.

Peace, Lee

Thank you so much, my darling friend! I will never buy one of those tablet thingies, I much prefer the feel of paper books. I like the word 'puffing' I will change it. You are right about the forests, you and I know it, but you are always going to get those silly people banning everything. We will keep the paper books going, Lee!! A huge hug for the 6 shining stars, my wonderful friend!! :) (do you think I have overdone the (!!!!) :) xxx Sandra

Paper rules. And yes, I think ! is a punctuation that needs to be used with restraint. It loses all its power when overused. Think: The Boy Who Cried Wolf.
