Hi Sandra

Another superb poem. I love where your mind goes with these "Picture This" group.
A win for your The Sad Piano and now comes this one. I love the theme you've chosen, and the irony of the old man and young granddaughter and the huge conflict of their generations.,, technology. :)) So aptly brings forth emotion from this great image selection.

I embrace the computer age, but one loss is the reading of books to hold in my hand and anticipate as I open the cover for the first time; to be enthralled by the drama or adventure; over-whelmed by the love story; entertained by the wit and humour; or simply in rapture over the words and phrases.

As usual, great rhyme and meter, excellent phrasing, and copious use of poetic technique. The alliteration, assonance and consonance, usually a superb feature in your poems, always combine to create wonderful melodious sound when read aloud.

Rare for me to find any spag or typos in your work ... I seem to hiccup on this:-

"While I can hold a thousand books here in my tiny hand,
upon my Tablet, and no trees were taken from the land." -- perhaps this would sound/read better:

"While I hold upon my Tablet, here in my tiny hand--
a thousand books, and no trees were taken from the land." --- just a suggestion, I don't profess to be a grammar or meter expert. LOL

Great work. Hugs - Lovi xoxoxo

Hi, Lovi, thank you so much for another of your lovely reviews. Most of my reviewers agree with Granddad, I do too, and I do hope technology doesn't go that far that it will take away our paper books.

Thank you for letting me know about those two lines, I will take a good look at them again, your suggestions are a big help, my friend, often I am told of lines that trip the flow but no real reason as to why. I am very pleased you enjoyed this take on the picture, Lovi, thank you. :) Sandra xxx

    Hi Sandra

It's such a pleasure to see you back on deck in full capacity. Your poetry is excellent ... your children's poetry is pure delight, but WOW! you have impact for the adult readers as well.

I'm pleased my little suggestions help ... I laugh my head off thinking I'm giving a suggestion on meter when I'm hopeless at it. Hahahaha! Maybe my ear is learning the beats. LOL Hugs - Lovi xoxoxo

Hi Sandra.
I enjoyed your poem of the obsolescence of libraries of the future. Most likely true. Like grandpa these lines were meaningful to me because I feel the same way:
"the joy of holding books and turning pages in your hand."
Again, I identify with grandpa in the last lines:
"Perhaps you're right, but I like paper best!"
he said, almost defiantly, while puffing out his chest.
My grandsons enjoy going to the library and selecting their own books, although they DO have tablets as well.

My grandchildren do too, I think it will be quite a while before this actually happens, if it even does... I hope it doesn't, anyway. Yes, Granddad and I are on the same wave-length when it comes to liking paper books best. Thank you so much, Marilyn, for your lovely review. :) Sandra xx

That is a cool picture for this round of the contest.
I love your story/poem it was sort of a middle ground from the children's stuff you do so much of and an adult perspective to the story.
It was--to me, well written and fun to read. I thought you did an outstanding job of describing the image.

This work has reached the exceptional level

This is so very good. The rhyme is precise and the meter provides the most wonderful flow. It is traditional poetry at its very best.

And it tells a story that should please every writer. Surely the thought of being in print provides the ambition for us to write

I delight in your response to the challenge you took on. The rhyme and meter are a delight and the content as well. The punch-line is also right up there as excellent.

Thank you so very much, Alister. I love it that you liked it that much. You are one of the very few on here who really will say what you think, so I am chuffed to bits with your words. Thanks, my friend. :) Sandra. xx

Articulate writing you have done here. I've come to expect that from you because you are such a wonderful penner. That isn't a word except in Southern Language but true the same.

I love that word! I must remember that. Did you know you can actually get it put into the dictionary if you can provide a good meaning for the word. I think you have done that as well! Excellent! LOL.. Thank you so much, my friend, for another of your lovely reviews. :) Sandra xxx

Hi Sandra!

I like your interpretation of this picture the best so far. My favorite is the first part,
"her eyes the size of saucers focused on the things they'd found".

This picture reminds me of a spooky Dr. Who episode. Your poem made it down to earth and made me think that some day kids really may not know what a library is.

You should take my name off your list of members. I'm no longer in the group.

I think that day might come, which is so sad. I will take your name off, Joy. I only write these challenges if the picture gets to me. If it doesn't, I won't. I'm glad you liked my take on this one, I can see where you are coming from, the spookiness of a Dr.Who episode, lol! Thanks, my friend. :) Sandra xxx

Oh I see now that you are also one of the group, I just saw the same photo. In your poem it is also a library. The grandchild makes a just comment about a tablet and not wood. Grandpa does not approve. Best wishes for the challenge.

Good insight on this picture Sandra. That is where it is heading now isn't it? That will be a shame. Maybe they will have book museums in the future. LOL Good Job my friend.
