I enjoyed reading your well written poem about the music that filled the air after WW ll, when the Allied Forces defeated Germany. (aabb) make it flow easily flow from one stanza to the next.

Hi Bob. I enjoyed reading your poem for this post of Picture This.
Well written. Content focuses on the WWII--the history and
the emotions. Important that we don't forget these important
events and treasure the gains and the losses. Marilyn

Thank you Marilyn for such a nice review I really appreciate them.
Personally, I found this challenge the most difficult so far.

    Good luck with your writing

Bob, this is incredible! You combined WWII with the 'music of life" and you ended up with a very emotionally impactful poem! It really moved me! Your word choices were fantastic!
You start out with the generalized description of what the emotional tone of a whole nation can be, then, jump into telling the story of the war.
Such a unique take on this! Thank you for sharing this!

I enjoyed your challenge poem. I like how you stated that there is different music in the air everyday. I like how you focused your poem on WW2. That music was a sad refrain for the world. But with perseverance the war ended favorably for the Allies. I like how you invited the reader to celebrate for we do not know what tomorrow will bring AND remember the lives lost for our freedom. Good job and thanks for sharing.

I love what you drew from this! WW2 will ever be etched in
our minds, in part because of the music of the period
represents both the emotional ambiance of the world AND
the "Golden Age of Radio" - when FM came into everyman's
life :-)
So much great music from that era is still revered! With the
big bands and the relative novelty of FM broadcasting - music
did, indeed, fill the air!

Also, lest I forget to say. . .I l o v e the way you rhymed
Churchill's "war" with law! Genius! ;-)

I found this image to be the hardest too, Rob. Well done on your take, yes there was music as Churchill rallied the troops, and there was music and street partying at the end of the war. Music is a rousing force and a celebrating one too. You did well with this poem, it really is good. :) Sandra xx

Thank you Sandra. I'm now going to read the other entries. I must admit I love this idea as it throws up so many interpretations. The human imagination is such a clever device. Look forward to reading yours. Will review it today

Wow your poem is the first I have read so far.
And you took me by surprise because your title was the same as mine.
Is that okay, even though they are far from being different.
This is a good write.

Of course it's all right. When I published my first novel I discovered there were already a number of books with the same title. Maybe that's why it didn't sell!!!!
I'll read and review your poem today. Thank you for stopping by and reviewing mine,

I guess I don't understand the challenge. Did the musical notes and the open umbrella remind you of Hitler's regime? So, when you have a moment, can you tell me how this connoted Poland's fall the Hitler's battle with Britain?

You certainly ask difficult questions. The image is provided and the interpretation is up to the poet. Personally I found it very difficult to come up with a theme. The first verse came easily but I couldn't extend on this theme. Then one morning I woke and the war idea sprang to mind.

In my somewhat twisted mind I then tried to highlight how music crosses into every sphere of life. In this case, the war and then the victory celebrations afterwards.

How is the marketing of your work going. If you would like I can pass on some ideas I've learned from conversations with a former agent who now works as a writer's consultant.

    Best of luck,

Need all the help I can get, Bob. Did I tell you I got one of my short stories accepted. Entitled "The Uneven Zen of Time". It's about the old dudes competing with each other. Sold it to a literary journal (get this!) for $20.00. No, the period's in the right place. He only went up to $20 when I told him I was disappointed for the $8.00 he originally offered, since I had already spent $18 reader's fee to submit it to a contest, and now had to withdraw from them since they wouldn't accept stories published elsewhere. What's good about it, though, is it could be accepted for their anthology of the best writings of the year and it gets a lot of exposure.

Thanks for your offer to get me that info, Bob. I appreciate your support.

My advisor offered many suggestions, but two stood out. First, don't mention Fanstory, as many agents consider work on Fanstory to be 'published' and they are only interested in non-published work. Second, he suggested to me to submit requests to successfully published writer's in my genre asking them to read, and then provide a brief three or four line blurb for the back cover should my book be picked up. I sent out about 25 requests and received one reply, from David Baldacci 's office to consider my request once I had a publisher. WOW.
    Good luck and congratulations,
    Bob

thanks for getting back to me, Bob. I knew that already about FanStory and I make sure I don't leave a paper trail leading back here. It's a pity. FanStory is a step up from having a family or several writers read your stuff before you submit it.

The other idea I really like. I won't be implementing that, though until I have my trilogy ready to go to market.

Again, Bob, thank you so much for your kindness and time.

Querytracker is another very good source. It lists all agents along with the genres they represent. It costs, I think its about $US25 for a one year membership.
    Good luck,
    Bob

The poem sings of life
That needs to be held
Through the music of war
To the symphonies of peace

Well to hold each day
With desire to hear the music
Finding that it plays
Upon life and the heart strings

Remember those who lost
The victims of war
The ones now under siege
As terrorist play a different beet
