Very cool take on the picture this challenge. I love the story you've created of the man with the music coming to town and his legacy that continues after his demise. Nicely done.

This is a beautiful melody in a poem. Sort of like the "Music Man" , who gets everyone excited about bright colorful uniforms, shiny instruments, and smiles and parades. It is bouncy and flowing and has a very nicely rhymed repeating stanza. Sad though he is gone his memory lives on in the hearts of the town.

Hi Sandra. You did an excellent job with this challenge. I loved it.
Upbeat and positive, touting the joy music brings to us all. These
are the best lines for me:
"We all call him our 'Music Man'
he brightens up our town;
he'll put a smile upon our face,
when we are feeling down."

There's a tradition in New Orleans (for my money, the most dynamic music center in the United States) for umbrellas to be opened during funeral processions--and funeral processions are marvelous musical extravagances in that city. The Creole belief is that rain aids a departed soul in reaching heaven. So, rain or shine, every funeral requires open umbrellas, and music, and dancing in the streets. It's a grand tradition. Your poem, and the graphic bring this tradition to mind.

I don't know if you're aware of this tradition, Sandra, but you brought music, the umbrella, and death together the same way it happens from the French Quarter, to Lake Charles, to Lake Ponchatrain.

You may be Cajun. You may be Creole. Twirl that umbrella and dance. You struck a chord with me.

Peace, Lee

I remember watching an old film, years ago, where they had a funeral that was just as you described. I thought it was brilliant. What a great way to send off a loved one. When I saw the picture, it had to be like that.

Thank you so much, my dear friend; and you are, of course, expecting another of my super duper hugs for the 6 stars, aren't you? It's on its way!! :) Sandra xxx

Wow, Sandra!
I love your take on this artwork....I'm still scratching my head wondering how to interpret it!
Fantastic meter and rhyme - musical in itself!
A lovely story, well told and well presented - I really enjoyed it :)
Love and best wishes, Debra x

Thank you so much, Debra. It took me forever to write it and I've changed it more times than I can count. It is a hard one this time so I can quite understand you have a problem with it too, I will make a point of looking out for yours. Big hugs and loads of love, my friend. :) Sandra xx

Hi there,

When I saw the picture I immediately thought of angels and lo and behold there it is in the last verse / chorus.

I loved this piece. Simply loved it. The first few verses are sheer joy but turn forboding when he doesn't show up. However, the hopefulness in the end is well writ.

Great stuff

Thank you so very much, my friend, for your really lovely review and for the shiny 6 stars!! It's funny what we all see in these pictures, you saw angels, that is really interesting. As soon as I saw the notes falling from Heaven, my thoughts went in that direction, but from the Music Man sending down his music. Thank you again, my friend. :) Sandra xxx

I am sure I will enjoy it. It's what I like most about this club, reading what others see in the picture. I found this one the hardest yet! Thank you, Patricia, for you lovely review on my take! :) Sandra xxx

Bit of a sorrowful post from you this time, Sandra.
I was thinking maybe another addition to your children's works you've been doing...but the ending was a bit sad. I do like your light airy, bouncy rhymes.

I know, sorry, Jimmy. I had to write about that picture and to get the music notes falling from the sky, he had to end up playing in Heaven. There are over 50 members in the 'Picture This' club, so I will be reading the others soon, all writing about this picture. Children's poetry coming back next! :) Thank you, my friend for your lovely review! Sandra xxx
