You are at your imaginative best when you visualize firstly fairies at play and then they wage a war mid-season before bidding goodbye to this year's winter. Let the winter fairies pack up and leave as early as possible and we are ready to welcome Spring fairies.

a mid-season struggle
should winter stay or recede

Hello danpald, Your poem made me smile ... the magic of fairies. I especially liked:

Winter Fairies dance with care
Sending spells to warm the air

(And let the dancing spells begin -- enough of this snow.)

And now sharing my after-thought:

And so ...
The Fairies danced
and melted the snow
The crocus, once more,
did grow.

This poem was a pleasure to read. I can feel the magical joy within. Wonderful artwork choice and silky rhyming. Watch those Fairies -- the mid-season war has begun.

So this is a battle between different types of fairies? You write a sense of magic in the air and the fairies fighting with spells is a great concept.

Thanks for the comments. Just a war that comes every year when the change of the season comes. Which will be the short or the long winter season. The ground hog said short but not always is correct.
