Another 'love gone wrong' interpretation. This appears to be a common theme.
Your poem flows well. I sense it is far easier for us reviewers to read than for the writer to relive, especially if it is biographical.
You have done well

Thank you, Bob, for your lovely review. I wish it had been a love gone wrong, we would have righted it. No, my husband was 'taken' far too young by cancer. This picture just brought all those long ago feelings and memories back. Not that they ever go away, but Brian died 30 years ago so my life has moved on and my sons are now men. Thanks again, my friend. xsx Sandra

No doubt those who have entered the contest will give a great account in poetry. Sounds as if your is a good contender. You list many good poets. Hope things work out for you.

Thank you, Ben, it's not a contest, just a group writing their own interpretations on different pictures. It's really good reading what others takes are on them. I'm glad you liked this one, thanks my friend. xsx Sandy xx

Hi Sandra, I just read Margaret Snowden's poem using the same picture. I thought all the pictures would be different. This one is a true lover's lament, beautifully penned in easy reading rhyme, Giddy

A lovely description of love's beauty like the rose being all that remains of a relationship now dissolved. You express how you will always hold your love even so. The rose was once in your wedding spray and you ask how could something so good end in ruin. As you watch the sun set on the horizon, remembering your words as we broke up, both in tears, you throw the rose into the sunset.

I think you captured a viable essence off the prompt pic - this is tough pic. Your verse tells a good story and it flows so well that it makes this a very good read. Well done

Everything is subject to interpretation. This sounds like he came home early, passing by his doctor's, with bad news. ( not better than the tavern, where the new barmaid made him an offer he couldn't refuse. Life equals hope.) Excellent poem for a hazy picture.

LOL! Actually, I have had a few interpretations of this poem, in this case, it was the bad news, but it happened 30 years ago. Thanks, Red, I'm glad you liked it. :) Sandra xx

This sense of loss in this piece is very palpable. Anyone who has suffered this kind of loss should be easily able to identify with it. There are two kinds of loss, both can be devastating. There is the loss that comes as a total surprise, then there is the loss that is not immediate, but you have already been told that it is coming. I think of the two of them this one is the worse because you mourn before during and after, whereas with the other you only suffer after the fact.

Thank you, Nomi. Do you know, you are the only one who has understood that. I don't mean on here. But, this happened to me a long time ago, and what you said about mourning before and after, is so true. I really don't know which was worse, the knowing it was to come, or after my husband died. I do know, it was even harder for my two sons. Thank you, my friend, for your lovely review. :) Sandra xx

I too have suffered from having to live with the knowledge that my father was near death and that there was nothing I could do to forestall it. The death of my oldest daughter was sudden and knocked me for a complete loop.
-
To lose your child, I could not even begin to imagine the pain you are going through, I don't think I would ever recover from that. I am so, so sorry for your dreadful loss.
-
Thank you. It has been a little easier as my wife and I have raised her two children. Her daughter acts just like her and her son is her male look alike almost as if they were twins and not son and daughter. Through these two she is very much still here with us.
-
Grandchildren are the best things that happen to Grandparents. My sons remind me so much of their father, as you say, our loved ones do live on. I am glad you still have her close through the grandchildren you so obviously love. xx

Again, I thank you.

Beautiful love poem! The part when he come home early and they went outside was so striking! Usually partner going home early is a happy occasion - it was so hard to read what came out of it... Well crafted poem, my dear!
