Sounds a lot like the dust bowl eras of the 1930's here in the States, Kay.
It's amazing what a little rain, or lack of rain in this instance, can do to make a profound impact on the land. It's been said that into every life a little rain must fall. I'll bet'cha those who raise cattle in Australia have wished that old saying would come true more than once or twice.

This has a nice rhythm and flow to it.
I enjoyed reading about the plight of the Australian livestock producers. Hopefully things will get much better for them soon.

~Nicely done, Kay.

A well thoughtout platform for relating your thoughts of the current drought in Australia and the effect on its farmers. Fortunately the good side of city-folk prevails and they bring needed food for the animals; friendship for the farmers. I am still in the doldrums of writing. love Alan.

Hello my friend Alan, Maybe you need some Chinese take-out to stir your imaginings? I have been off the radar for some time, same problem in the doldrums. Thanks for reading and c'mon, if I can get up so can you! Love, Kay.

Particularly well written and poignant 3rd and 4th stanza, excellent overall. Very powerful and impactful. Water is a fickle friend when it overruns or leaves us. Great job.

This is a good historical poem about the troubles of the bush in Australia and how it still affects lives I Australia today but I didn't really understand its rhythm so it put me off giving you a five and I thought if you had given it a little more thought it might just have flowed more smoothly and then the message you were trying to convey would have been accepted by me better but a brave effort well done from William alias snooker155x

G'day snooker, Yep, I started with free verse and couldn't help ending up with rhyming (which suits me better, more of a challenge than free verse. Thanks William. Cheers, Kay.

Reading of the plight and devasatation of your countrymen is really heartbreaking, Kay. Like you, I pray that those families will get the blessed rain all are asking for. Thanks for enlightening on this situation.

Hugs, Bev

G'day Luverly Bev, We wait and wait. Would you believe there is flooding right up the top of Northern Territory and it has swollen rivers and passed right by the cattle growers. love, Kay.

Those farmers are not the ones that have polluted the earth and squandered resources, but they are the ones to pay a heavy price. It's very sad.

Your vivid use of words captures a scene of dryness and the need for water. The reader can see into the world of those who need the rain. You have a theme that is important and a good one for a poem, it teaches readers much.

Thanks so much for your insightful review. Some are getting floods in the far north, places that really need it are not. Blessings, Kay.

You have given me two six stars, and I had none left come Sunday night. I am so sorry, my friend, this poem is so sad, yet has a moral to it that all is not lost when you have family and friends who care enough to help. A hundred year drought! How can people live? Where do you live? Is it anywhere near the drought area? This is a really good poem, my friend. :) Sandra xx

Hello Blossom, We are OK because we live on the coast near the Pacific Ocean. The poem was about the land 'out west' cattle and sheep country. Tough people run cattle stations, used to drought and flooding rains; never seen a drought like this one. Love, K.

How sad Kay. I would love to hear your drought is over. I think ours is, but it was not a severe as yours. We have not seen the ground since the first week of December. Lots of snow. Perhaps when the seasons change you will benefit from El Nino! God Bless you all. Nancy

Hello Nancy, Thank you for reading my friend; and so the drought continues. Beef is running at $33 a kilo. We have to cut corners and live on mince and sausages. God Bless you too! Love, K.

Hi Kay,
Praying that Australia will soon get rain where needed. Our California was the same way for several months; then the rains came, and it was too much. You and I know that it isn't going to get better, just worse.
Good poem with a good message.
Hugs,
Lois

G'day Luverly Lois, We have never experienced drought like this one. Meat in the supermarket is around $33 kilo. There have been many reports of graziers committing suicide. The Banks won't bail them out any longer. Love, K.
