Oh, I'm looking forward to the next chapter. I honestly hope that it was a happy reunion. It's so sad when family breaks down for such petty reasons. But if a family member cannot see reason, then there is little anyone can do.
My motto: Never, never go into a marriage thinking this:
'If it doesn't work out, we can always divorce'."
If you do, then you should not marry!
Yes, casual relationships cause plenty of emotional trauma--and it's so unhealthy for us.

Thanks so much, Nicole, for the six and pertinent remarks. Poor Barb. To think that she knew at the altar what a mistake she was making, but she wanted to be the first to get married and the first to have a baby. That too ended badly.
I was brought in a time when good girls didn't have sex until after the wedding. If I had given up my virginity to someone who then left me, I would have been severely damaged, I suspect.

"I've slept with so many," she told me one summer at the cottage, "that I'm embarrassed." Was she bragging? Did she want me to feel jealous? .....I doubt that it was either, Spit. She probably felt guilt more than anything else and knew she could confide in you, and that you'd be discreet concerning her promiscuity.

My middle brother, Brandon, sounds a lot like your sister Barb. He always tries to be the first at everything, and he has always needed to be the center of attention. His infidelities with the wives of some of my cousins caused a family rift of epic proportions. He's destroyed two of our cousin's marriages by cheating on his own wife with theirs. As a consequence, those cousins will not even speak to me or my younger brother, Scott. Sad, but true.

It would be hard to feel empathy and to sympathize with someone you barely knew any longer. But blood is blood, and for the most part the bonds between siblings is very strong despite their differences.

So sorry I missed a chapter or two of this while I was away, Shari. I'm doing my damnedest to try and get caught up.

Good chapter as always.

You may be right about Barb's remark. My reaction says more about me and my subconscious feelings toward her!
Brandon sounds as if he has something to prove. The infidelities are often power plays where no love or lust in really involved. Why your cousins take it out on you too is a mystery, but it certainly is an epic breach of loyalty.

Thank you for the lovely compliment. Don't worry about catching up. The next two chapters are the most important in my mind.

It's always a pleasure, Shari. Yours is the only story of it's kind that I follow. I really look forward to reading them.
    Take care

Hi Shari ...

Wow, talk about taking competitiveness to an extreme! I'm a very competitive person ... but not with family. But, my next younger brother is a jerk and very competitive. He will not engage himself in anything where he anticipates he will not come out the winner or the "hero". And when something goes wrong, he finds someone else to blame.

And yes, sometimes we have a different perspective of things when someone does. We think one thing, but the real truth is another matter.

I love your casual and straight-forward writing style. It's easy to read and very fluid.

Best to you, my friend. Hugs ...

I'm competitive too, but not with family, I agree. Your younger brother is busy protecting his ego. Insecure, maybe?
Thank you for the compliments. Wishing you and your wife well.
    Hugs,
    Shari

Yes, Norman's (my next younger brother) ego exceeds his common sense and appreciation for people. He's b=very intelligent ... just uses his intelligence with mal-intent.

    Talk atcha later ...

Yeap, common sense is what my sister lacked in spite of her high I.Q.
