Oh Dean you are a bad man-ha. This is quite evil-"the sudden rustling of corn," well that made us hold our breath right there. Graet scare.

Well, written as always, Dean, and maybe just a bit more horrifying than usual. You know me, I prefer your stories to hint at the horrors to come. Now that I think of it, I guess Timmy might take over the scarecrow's duties? Yikes!!
Remind me to stay away from corn fields!
Carol

This is a creepy story that reminds me of all the scary scare crow images I've ever seen. Bobby sort of becomes the Blue Man from Children of the corn. Creepy cool.

I am certainly glad it is winter and that we do not have a scarecrow out in the garden. Poor Timmy should have heeded his instincts and found another way to his friends house. Of course, this now raises the question of who the previous scarecrow was and how long he had been waiting to find someone to take is place. Oh, the back stories that could come out of this one.

When I was a kid I remember taking the shortcut through the corn field . I remember even then that I was terrified of the field, those lurking in the corn and the clotrophobic feeling it gave me.
I appreciate you teaching me how scarecrows re-produce. What a heritage they have. -Bill

Dear Dean, I have to say ole pal ole buddy ole chum. You are seriously weird. That poor scarecrow! What did it ever do to you to write something SO NASTY about it. ? Did your grand pappy have a scarecrow fetish? I know !! You have it in for scarecrows generally because you were made to sit through "the Wizard of Oz" 15 times. You poor little love. I do feel for you. Once was enough for me! What a dopey kid! You'd think he'd go around the long way after meeting it on the path. Some kids never learn, do they?

Thanks for dropping by to read and review this Tiny Tale of Terror, Cass, but I really am quite normal, I swear, lol! In fact, if you were to run into me on the street while walking my ten pound, twelve-tear-old Chihuahua, Gidget (complete with her pink, diamond-studded collar and leash, no less), and hold a conversation with me, you'd never think I'd be capable of writing the things I do. I'm far more laid back because I work out my aggressions and expel my personal demons through my writing. Much more so than those who allow their own to stay bottled up and festering inside of them.
Thanks so much again. I truly appreciate your comments.

No one is safe around you, are they, Dean? ;)
Well, except Gidget. ;)
I notice you don't kill off the hounds. LOL
Thank goodness. (no, that was NOT a challenge)
Well written and I loved the internal alliteration... especially at the beginning...
You're a man who pays attention to details... I like that.
I'm still going to have to get my game on and write one of these.... :)

Hello Dean

You are awful!!! Not!! :))) The locals have a scarecrow festival every year in the community I lived in a few years ago ... and miss being in the country-side. Your tale conjures up all the scary (and there were also not so scary) creations that would appear on pathways, driveways for weeks until they all transferred to the community park for festival and judgement.

You've put new meaning into the pleasure I took in viewing the great talent (the community was very much an artists' colony ... writers, sculptors, potters, painters, photographers,, etc). I never did see one with a crucified body of a young boy, or a bloodied pitchfork in it's hands... always hoping though. mwahaha! Did I say that?

Love the image and presentation. For once, I'm not reading your work in the middle of the night, and there is no need for any creepy sounds, you scared the bejeezus out of me anyway. YIKES! Message to self: next time don't take short path through corn fields.

Excuse me, I must go and disassemble the scarecrow in my back yard ... it wasn't fooling the magpies anyway. :))) Lovely to see a new post ... I think. Hugs - Lovi xoxo

Hahaha, sorry about tainting the memories of what truly must have been a joyous festival to attend, Lovi. But I'm pretty accomplished at destroying things--my relationships, my marriage, people who decide to cross me, etc, etc, lol. So, it doesn't surprise me. I'm a bit disappointed you weren't reading this at night...in a cornfield...as a scarecrow loomed over you. It's much more frightening that way, heh-heh..
Thanks for reading and commenting on my latest Tiny Tale of Terror. I sincerely appreciate your indepth comments and six stars, as always.
