Well, those crows and ravens need to eat too. I think Timmy will provide better sustenance than a straw scarecrow. Excellent tiny terror!

I thought Timmy was about to be the scarecrow's lunch not replacement. This tiny mini flash horrors are intense. They never fail to go for the jugular( sorry Timmy) and hang on until the last period. Great scary stuff. Keep them coming.

Ah, here's the Dean we know and love. Timmy was likely a rotten bully anyway so we need not feel sad that he hangs on the post like a Poe-esk Halloween ornament. Timmy doesn't scare me - not knowing where the damn scarecrow is hiding does! Nicely done. AT=/

Hahaha, you and about forty others are wonderin' where that damn scarecrow ran off to, AT, LOL. Hopefully none of you ever gets the chance to find out, heh-heh...

Hi, Dean.

I stumbled on your first mention of 'the cross' and thought it may have religious connotations, as I've never heard it associated with a scarecrow, but now I think of it, it maybe is - or is it more of a 'T' shape which holds the scarecrow in place?

Your usual ghoulishly rotten and entertaining write.

That rotten disgusting kid, Timmy, probably picked his nose or did something equally gross, so thoroughly deserved his horrific fate. MWAHAHA!

Nice one!

Best wishes, Ray

Nope, nothing religious was intended or implied here, Ray. Out here in my neck-of the-woods we call the stands scarecrows are hung on as "crow crosses". We've got a million of 'em , both for scarecrows and...other more...unmentionable... things, lol.
Thanks so much for reading and commenting on this story, Ray.

'crow-crosses' is a term I'm unfamiliar with, Deano, but it's VERY appropriate.

I think I'll steer clear of your spooky 'neck of the woods', in case I end up being strung up, too. LOL. Ray.

Heh-heh-heh... It is kinda spooky way out here in the sticks, Ray. On a much brighter note, very few folks hear the screams, lol. I think you'd be just fine, my friend. ;)

Hmmm...thanks for the reassurance, Dean, but I think I'll stay home to be on the safe side, as YOU may be my only friend, and I don't trust those darned scare-crows. ;-)

This is a terrifying small tale of terror and it hit the spot yet again. There is a new scarecrow on this wooden cross and maybe the scarecrow will go past timmy now.

No fair, you're getting all my sixes! LoL! Another deliciously gross little story. This reminds me of a lost kitten my brother and I tried to find out in my dad's corn field. Back where old Grouchy lived. Something about corn rows...Great story Dean! Loved it. Suse

Old Grouchy, huh, Susan? He sounds delightful...
Thanks for yet another fantastic review and supportive comments. I know we get so few sixes to go around that I always feel extremely fortunate when I am blessed enough to receive one of my own.
Thanks so much again. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

:) I have to elaborate...Old Grouchy was my dad's best producing sow. My brother and I rode her like a pony off and on, got into lots of trouble, but she was really sweet. UNTIL she had her piglets. She almost killed my brother one day. Dad had to take a claw hammer to her head to get her away from him so he could climb out of her pen. It was close! I wrote a story about it and it got panned big time. Lol! I'll have to work on it someday. And you're always welcome for your most deserved extra stars!

I'm thinking Robert Frost must be turning over in his grave. This is delightfully nasty, it makes me want to go out now and pull down the scarecrow that is in our orchard. I'll refrain from any comments about "who's stuffed now?". Very nice work as always, Dean.
Craig.

Hey Dean,

Now this one kicks @$$ & kills the grass all at once. I was wondering if you enjoy the band KORN in any way. They have a backwards looking band logo which doesn't leave me kicking and screaming as much as this story does, in spite of all of KORN's soundtrack music they'll ever make. On a divergent note, I'm reminded of Steve Winwood's 'John Barleycorn' which was later covered by Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull.

Blessings,
Shane

KORN, Disturbed, Godsmack, Pantera, Metallica, DOPE, Five Finger Death Punch, and Stitched Up Hearts is my usual listening fare and some of my favorites, Shane. I also enjoy Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, Alice Cooper...you get the idea.
