I am so sorry to hear about Whiskers. How petty to take stars away for your notes...just petty! Great chapter and I love that Soni and Jim finally kissed...I was getting concerned.

Only a complete idiot would give a three stars over the addition of your notes.

Thanks for filling us in, Barbara, I certainly hope things are calming down for you now in the run up to Christmas.

First - your author's notes: my sincere condolences, Barbara. I am also sorry that you encountered an a*shole.

Now, to the chapter - IMHO you have tackled the budding romance flawlessly - it's bloody well time these two got to taste the sweetness! LOL.

(Sorry I'm so late reviewing!)

Don't want to miss any of it if I can help it. As for Whiskers - of course, Barbara - I've lost too many pets myself, and I still mourn them, believe me!!! They're like family; our babies..

I am glad that these two finally took the next step in their relationship. They need some romance in their lives to off-set the constant danger they're in. I would try to make more of these moments so as to keep the readers reading. Too much gloom and doom is not good. Congratulations on making the relationship milestone.

RIP Whiskers--my heartfelt condolences to you.

Sorry someone knocked off stars for that. I would suggest putting the notes in author's note area, but either way is fine.

As usual, this is well paced, easy to read, draws the reader into the scene via swift paced dialog with true authentic-style diction and fine use of action tags to add nuance and imagery.

A few spags and suggestions:

*"I wonder how many cartel members are watching." Her voice grew louder,(.) "I know you're out there."

* Jim petted the animal's head.
Consider:

Jim pet the animal's head.

*
"I meant did he have any insight to the issues here at the ranch.(?)
Not sure but when reading this, I hear it as a question.

* Her arm went over his shoulder,(no ,) as she pointed. "Another shooting star."

*
The glancing high beam of headlights interrupted the couple's kiss,(no ,) as the vehicle preceded to the ranch house.

Happy Thanksgiving to you...

Warmly,
rd

I am so sorry. Losing a pet is so very difficult.

I like how this ended with a kiss. How sweet. Are you nearing the end. This has been a great storyline and I like your characters. Have a Happy Thanksgiving, my friend~Debbie

I'm sorry about your kitty, it seems you have picked the perfect spot for her. I am also sorry about the heartless reviewers who get off on hurting people, just for the heck of it, ignore them and move on, and know the rest of us care that you are hurting inside. The death of a beloved pet is hard, they are part of the family. We are still morning the deaths of our dog Tess, and our cat Brew. they will live on in our hearts forever and they have been gone for years.

As for your chapter I really enjoyed it, I like the conversation and you ended the chapter with yet something to look forward to in your next post.

Hi, Barbara. So sorry I have been gone and missed so much of your fine writing. Lots of great images and dialogue in this chapter too:

" Jim ran his fingers through his hair. "After dinner, you spoke with Kuruk. Did he have anything interesting to say?"

And: "Their eyes met. As their gaze continued, they moved slowly toward each other until their lips met."

Suggestion: I would start a sexond paragraph here: "She scanned the area. "I wonder how many cartel members are watching." Her voice grew louder, "I know" (because you have her thoughts too close together with her talking out loud I think) Just a suggestion though)

Happy Thanksgiving, Bob

That kiss we have all been waiting for, and then, those darn headlights. Thanks for the pleasure of another fine chapter.

My dad always said, "The best substitute for ignorance, is silence." Unfortunately, idiots don't have to speak or be seen when they can type messages and hide behind a computer. It's no consolation for your nasty three-star review, but people like those, and God knows we have plenty on Fan Story, should be banished from this site. Great job. :-)

Hi Barbara,
I'm glad Soni and Jim are getting closer,
times goes by much better.
I'm sorry about Whiskers, I know how painful it is
when a loved pet goes to heaven, I've lost one dog
and cried all weekend. I haven't had a dog since.

Three star rating! Must be a new member, but a low
rating doesn't count for your rating.

That is true. It doesn't bother me getting a low rating, if it's deserved but having personal notes at the end of a post, in my opinion isn't deserved. Thank you for the kind review.
