"Haiku (tadpole ponders 'neath)" Nothing wrong with this Haiku poem at all. Everything is kept within nature, for that's what it's all about. Very well done. And good luck!

I know my imagination is well oiled and slips into overdrive occasionally, but Your Tadpole has the expression of an Oriental Sage. I wonder what he is thinking about. Does he fear becoming a frog, or does he look forward to his metamorphosis into an air breathing creature.? Totally Zen!!
Well done cheers Cass

I don't think I have ever read a poem about a tadpole. Yours describes on very well in a few short lines. Love these little fellows. As a child, I use to collect them and raise them in our rain barrel.

I used to collect them as well and put them in our kiddie pool! I enjoyed watching them transform and feel I gave them a safe haven.

I like the feel and image your haiku creates. This is a peaceful poem that helps the reader to relax as she thinks about the tiny tadpole in the water. Excellent poem that paints a picture of nature.

This haiku about Zen, Tadpole Ponders, uses its sixteen syllables to bring the amphibian world into the loop of Zen. Imagine the metamorphosis. Nice thought.

Amphibian zen, huh? A new take on the philosophy, that's for sure! I'm curious as to what makes the tadpole's existence in the shallow water so zen, however. Tadpoles are constantly in danger of being a larger frogs snack, or dying from lack of oxygen, and many other deadly possibilities. I just don't see how "zen" that could really be. Also, what is the tadpole pondering? For the same reasons I think they'd be less than relaxed, I don't see what they could spend their time pondering. The purpose of the piece doesn't seem to be clear, but that may just be my perspective; I'm sure the point is obvious to others (and definitely to you). Either way, thank you for sharing and best of luck in the contest!

With gratitude and respect,
Your friend and colleague,

Thank you Word Doctor for the detailed review. If I may explain my way of thinking with this piece. I believe all living organism can experience some sort of Zen or spirituality of some sort. My take on the tadpole is that he lives in a very stressful environment as we humans do. I feel that he may have witnessed some tragedy in his youth and is pondering the fact of reaching adulthood! I think this gives the little fellow the peace and courage he needs to overcome any obstacles that may not be his demise. We as humans have so much on our minds that it seems difficult for us to reach the Zen experience. I feel that creatures of the earth experience this a little bit easier as we see so many resting peacefully even when danger is near. I have thoroughly enjoyed every comment that every fanstorian has bestowed on this piece and look forward to the future feedbacks.
Thank you again for taking the time to read and review my work as you have done so many in the past.

That tadpole definitely looks in pensive mood-perhaps he doesn't want to change into a frog-just kidding. Cute picture with well chosen words to convey your message. Good luck in the contest. Faye

Hmmmm...ya gotta wonder what a tadpole is thinking, if anything. Philosophy? The Cowboys playoff chances? The limits of consciousness as it relates to pre metamorphosis frogs in their zygote stage? We just don't know. The thoughts of the minnow are probably as simple as this poem itself. But only now and Zen. Badump!

Good luck in the thing.

I know....we suck. This year is certainly looking like a washout, even with Romo back. Arrrgh! Next year...Johnny Football, Cowboys 2nd string QB. Jerry likes em a little screwed in the head.

PS: Eagles, Giants and Redskins also suck.

PSS: I've come up with a solution to the Skins politically incorrect name. From now on....."The Drunken Redskins". badump!

Clever and unexpected--but why shouldn't animals have time to reflect too? Effective, memorable, hopeful. The image is effective as well.
