A well written article that should caution people about tampering with any situation they have not thoroughly studied. Such actions usually give other than the expected result. Excellent post.

Hi there,

This is a very interesting perspective to this piece. Exposure and experiences are what truly stay with people. I remember my little ones face the first time she saw held a starfish and saw a jelly fish - in an aquarium.

Circuses no longer have kept animals here either.

Many returned animals / sea life don't survive - they don't know how.

Well written piece giving food for thought indeed.

    You are right about this:
Many returned animals / sea life don't survive - they don't know how.
It's a shame the damage these protesters have caused.

Thank you for sharing your passionate views on such a controversial subject, Nicole. I think the closing of SeaWorld (no matter in which country), by a group of over enthusiastic do-gooders is just another example of the minority winning over the majority.
We still have a magnificent SeaWorld, here on the Gold Coast. A place of wonder for everyone who loves animals, especially our marine friends. These animals are nurtured and loved by their carers, and would most likely perish in the open sea. They do not know any different way of life, and seem happy. It will be a sad day for humanity, when we lose the opportunity to bond with nature in such a way. I hope the protesters stay way from here.

Thank you, Annette, for this awesome review. I agree with you. I have only ever been to SeaWorld once, and that was in Australia. What a privilege to witness such wonderful sights up close! Such a treasured memory.

Hi Nicole,

I read through this passionate essay concerning the current affairs and situation involving marine life and shows and activists and the people who love them, and the complications that could arise from perceived good.

If you make two people co-habit(cohabitate?) not sure

retarded in some way,
(this made me giggle.)
--my husband on a whole different subject matter: that's retarded.
--me: I think retarded might be becoming a bad word now... we might have to watch using it so the little one doesn't pick it up, take it to school, and end up in trouble or something.
--my husband: that's fu&$ing retarded.
--me: you're retarded.
--my husband; Heh. your mom's retarded.

I know, I'm losing sight of the topic at hand... the frustration with people, with things getting out of hand, good causing harm, harm that isn't harmful... but when I read that, this popped into my mind, and it kind of does go along the thought patterns of how things end up being dictated what should and shouldn't be allowed.

Children[,] and adults used to be
(suggest removing comma or adding one after adults?)

This essay expressed the topic in an easy to follow way, well articulated and thought out. Easy to read.

    Hi, Turtle
Yeah, okay. Cool. Retarded has become a phobia or slang word these days. I changed it to: lagged
    Thanks for spotting the comma.
    Cheers,

Naw, that wasn't really my intent... I was only remembering a fond memory, and comparing it to how people decide what should be allowed and start quests to make changes, is all.

It always takes me by surprise when we judge animals in the same way we judge human beings, as if animals are sentient beings. But nice article I enjoyed this well written and absorbing expose', it was most informative and very readable, well done, blessings, Roy

Thank you, Roy. Animals are beautiful, fascinating creations, but it is not right to put human emotions and thoughts into their heads. They are capable of emotion, but on a lower, more primitive level. Compassion might be lacking.

Superb piece! I agree totally.

Removing exposure to nature and animals from children will cause indifference in the following generations.

YES! This is very important. I will never forget our trip to Sea World and seeing the killer whale act. It seemed to be enjoying itself, and got plenty of good food as a reward. And you make a good point about sacrificing a few to help thousands, if they are unhappy. But I doubt it. They like people. :)

THER ARE SO MANY SIDES TO EVERYONES STORY AND THE ONE S WHO DO THE MOST HARM ARE THE PROTESTERS. THEY DO NOTHING TO PROTECT THE RIGHTS OF THE ANIMALS OH SURE THE SAY ALL KINDS OF STUFF BUT DON'T HAVE THE GONADS TO BACK IT UP. tHE SEA WORLD INCIDENT WAS JUST THAT SHE GOT TO CLOSE WITH THE LONG PONY TAIL AND IT COST HER HER LIFE. END OF STORY. KILLING WILD ELEPHANTS AND RHINOS AND ETC IS NOT GOOD EITHER.

Animals like the Bison was deliberately hunted to distinction to control the people who needed it for their lifestyle. This is very well written with a interesting flow of words.

An excellent essay, Nicole. From what I've heard on the news, the killer whales will still be there, but only views through windows, as in a glass bottomed boat.

If you make two people to co-habit--there will be arguments [If you make two people co-habit ... >> remove "to" since you're not using the infinitive "to co-habit"]

anyone denies this fact, they are either a liar, [...anyone (singular) denies this fact, HE IS either a liar ...]

this is an excellent write, curly, you did an excellent job writing this essay about the people who battled for sea world to be closed and what have they really gained or not gained in the nature of preservation.
