I thought this was an excellent response to the contest prompt. I particularly enjoyed 'has brightened every dark corner, helped to straighten the blind curves and made the valleys of my life temporary and survivable'.

Good luck with the contest.

This is an inspirational piece of writing - today what would we do in this circumstance - google a psychologist's appointment - yes I think we are losing something very important amidst the technological revolution - the human touch !

A very interesting real-life experience revealing the magic but simple formula given by your mother on how to be happy. It only proves that most of us do not know what makes us happy to begin with although we seek happiness all the time. I may try this method on my grandchildren when they make a long face.

For the sake of one tiny error I found, ie, "... depressed to the point of being physical(ly) sick" in your second paragraph, I am glad I stopped by and read this. It's excellent! It points out the obvious we are all told about, but don't see in black and white list form, like this. It's something I wish had been done for me when I was young, and a teenager. Your mother was a very wise woman, and you have learned her lessons well!

Cheers for sharing this piece of your life. I, for one, very much appreciate this peek inside your family home :)

Oh I really love reading your little things. I wish I had a mother like yours. She was really a bastion of courage and a perfect example of how children are raised. Her quiet and smart take on things like the Big Chief tablet is a subtle and perfect way of instilling morals to children without nagging and lecturing the scared children. You deserved six stars for this one. An exceptional write indeed. God bless.

I don't have a six left, or you could certainly have it. This is a fine parable about two people who have learned to understand and love each other. Here is a mother who knew what to do, and the child who grew up in the Big Chief tablet. Well done.
