Hi to you. I can't find your name. When I first started to read this piece I was a bit worried it was going to be a soul search but then your clever Mama turned it around. I too am old enough to take a stroll down memory lane. Well written. Regards MaBaker.

So very true! If we start listing what we are thankful for, we soon forget the things we don't like or the things going wrong in our life. I liked when she said she had the blues in her stomach.
Best wishes in the contest.

I think your mother had a very good plan for you to handle your "blues". We should remember to take time to think about all the little things that can add up to make us happy.

What a beautiful way for a parent to encourage their child to find what makes them happy! I had a particularly gloomy son who would force me to sit down and listen to him complain about everything he didn't like. The only way I would listen to his complaints was to make him come up with 2 good things for every bad.

He reminded me of that the other day when I was the one complaining. Funny how it comes back on you.

Great job,
Rhonda

People pay good money for that kind of therapy! What a wonderful idea. And, yes, you're right. It really does work. Great job. :) Nancy

Well written story that depicts where true happiness can usually be found...in the little things of life.

Uses terms such as the last paragraph to better illustrate this theme.

The last sentence is a good summary of the point being made.

Should also be a good contest entry.

Your short story is well written in my opinion, and the notion that people are happier if they focus on the positives in their lives is very plausible.
The main problem seems to me to be that the daughter seems to remain negative about the task her mother requires her to keep doing. Although you mention a time that she's starting to feel positive, she nevertheless seems to remain rather negative, and that she's simply following her mother's orders, rather then there being a turning point when she starts to relish the task.

Because this little girl was me, I know the result -- it worked. I am sorry you did not get that from my story; I must have fallen short in my intent. Thanks for reading.

This is - quite simply - something that eases my burden somewhat this morning. (*smile*) What a wonderful piece this is - flawless and so genuinely warm. I loved every single word of it. I only wish I had a six to rate it as it deserves.
