This was really cute and I love animals so appealed especially to me. Sounded like something I would do myself with all the crying. Seems like you will have a great chance in the contest.

This is the most adorable writing and very much like something I would write. For those of us who have this type of in your face, conversational, what you see is what you get writing style, I notice that the ones on here who take life too serious tend to not appreciate our happy go lucky prose style and way of looking at things. They tend to be very critical of every line. Glad we are not one of those! Love your work lady! Great Job!

Thank you, Tiger! I do agree with you! I certainly enjoyed spilling out this story. I must admit though, that the majority of my other work is quite deep, full of emotion, and plays an enormous role as self-therapy in which I become my own harshest critic. I think an occasional funny and relaxed story adds a nice touch to a portfolio! Thanks again,so much! Enjoy your day! Sue

Hello :)

What a great surprise. I was sad that your buddy died. I think it is true that turtles hide when they are afraid or endanger. Your poem is well written with great rhyme and meter. Well done!

So, he retreated far enough into his shell to avoid the three hungry raccoons, huh? That's surprising because 'coons are very adept at digging at things. They use their paws well, complete with a small, almost thumb, about as expertly as humans use their hands.

Good poem, well rhymed, simple--with a funny story.

Best of luck in the booths to ya'.

Thank you, Dean. This happened back in August and I have, since then, been wanting to write about it. When I noticed the contest idea about, "Laughter", well, I think it fits! Seriously, I could swear when I picked up his shell, I was able to see clear through. I was truly stunned! Thanks, again!

Well done with this very good entry in this Laughter contest poetry prompt. In fluid rhyming couplets, this was an hilarious account, when I read the first few couplets I was thinking to myself, what about his house? wouldn't that protect him, and thankfully it did! Good entry, articulate and descriptive, so good one, good luck, blessings, Roy

I imagine those raccoons were pretty angry with you for taking their treat away. And I'm proud you kept the turtle shell! Most of the time, within three days it would have been stinking HORRIBLY! hahahahaha

A fun story!

Oh, thank you, Robyn! Yes, I had been pondering on the thought of making time to write about this funny event, and when I noticed the "Laughter" contest, I pulled about an hour out of a closet somehow, and it all fell into place. I am happy that you enjoyed my story. Thank you, for the kind words.

Charmed and delighted. I was ready to cry at the pain of it all. Well written ,rhymed and a wonderful story in a poem. The artwork compliments your tale of that resilient turtle. I am smiling now so I guess you fulfilled the criteria.

Oh, Emily! Thank you so much for this wonderful 6-star review. I really enjoyed sharing this funny tale that will probably become the funny story at our family picnics for years to come! I truly thought he was gobbled up! What's even funnier, is that I started crying more when I realized he was still alive!

This was a fun read and your notes just added to the dun. It must have been awful to think the turtle was eaten by the raccoons. Blessings, Patricia

Thank you, Patricia. Yes, this was a sorrowful few days where my thoughts were quite grey and grim. To somewhat overcome my grief, I played the "Lion King" lessons in my mind in order to rationalize the "Food Chain", theory. What else could I really do! LOL! Once again, thank you.

Oh my goodness, what a story! Your poor turtle and you. I'm so glad he was just hiding in his trusty shell, waiting out the storm!

I stumbled over one small part I thought I'd mention. You talk about the raccoons devouring "their" friendship; do you mean "our" friendship? I didn't quite get that part.

I think it's a great poem with a humorous twist at the end. Good luck!

I'm glad you found your beloved turtle safe, having just disguised himself and hidden from the hungry raccoons. (Note: "racoons" should be spelled RACCOONS.) Good luck, Jeanie Mercer

Jeanie, thank you so much for your terrific review and for the "racoon" catch! I'm quite a stickler about spelling words correctly, especially if someone else is reading my writing. I'm thankful that you were one of the first three readers and I was able to correct this before 20 reviewers gave me a spelling lesson on the word, "raccoon". LOL! Enjoy your day!
