People should stay in touch before it is too late. 'Once in a blue moon' is a well-known saying here as well. I like the picture and the words and found it very sad. Thank you for sharing.

We do lose contact with friends we are close with today, and years later when you see them again, they feel like strangers again, most of the mutual friends are also not there anymore.

Once in a blue moon is very descriptive when one doesn't keep up with people, and then try to catch up as to what is going on. I think the poem depicted that
reminiscing feature that people often do. Well Done! Picture set the mood.

I had heard of the saying but didn't really know where it came from. I love this as it highlights the fact that once in a blue moon could be too long.

I was pleased to read your Author's Comment. I thought I was going to be driven to define it.

As for the poem, whew. I am 52 and, for some unknown reason, have experienced the loss of but a few friends and relatives.

Delahay, this is a very good poem. I enjoyed reading it for its down to earth, matter of fact expression. Once in a blue moon seems to happen more often now a days. Face to face ones anyway and then, as you say, its too late. Even though this is somewhat of a sad or depressing read I think it is cleverly written. Thank you for sharing it.

Emotionally evocative piece on losing touch and finding the changes unsettling. Very nicely worded with a great flow and personal, conversational style. Well done

Hello Delahay
Well you got my attention with you poem and you asking the question about the blue moon
So I had to look it up and found this--

Best Answer: A blue moon is when there are 2 full moons in one month. The second is called a blue moon. It does not happen very often, so that's what once in a blue moon means. Something that does not happen very often.

Thank you for reading and for your comments. I know what the phrase means though. I included an explanation in the authors notes at the bottom since I figured some people may never have heard it.

Oh Sorry I didn't take time to read your authors notes.
Will make sure I will next time.

Not a problem. I almost didn't include the note but then thought that there were probably people who had never heard the phrase.

I tend to be a little on the lax side when it comes to keeping in touch with friends and family. However, it seems many of those friends don't seem to care why I might not being in touch with them Of late, I have had severe pain and not able to do a lot of the things I need to dl.

I am in the same place. There is a great deal I cannot do because of physical limitations and chronic pain. As I used to be quite active and worked in a profession that required physical strength it is difficult to reconcile myself with my inabilities. It is difficult to keep in touch with others when it is difficult to get around much.
