As I grow older more and more friends "fall off the twig"I have lost four very close friends, a brother and a mother, in the last few years. Beautifully written rhyming work to whet the appetite of the of connoisseur of poetry, and rhyming poetry at that, well done, blessings, Roy

It seems harder all the time to keep up with people I used to see every day. It's good to hear from you again and to know you're still writing. I hope to feel like reading and reviewing other people's work but it's getting harder to type without making a lot of mistakes. Thank you for taking the time to read and review my poem. I hope to keep from making it another blue moon before we hear from each other again.

Once in a blue moon is a phrase we use often in Jamaica too and in the same context as used in your poem.

I love your poem, the way it flows, it demonstrates catching up of news of people known.

An enjoyable read.

I didn't know it was used in other countries as well. I often wonder why the term blue moon is used. Thank you for the feedback.

Oh yes...I did a little research on the internet and have this to share with you:

    once in a blue moon
To do something ?once in a blue moon? is to do it very rarely: ?That company puts on a good performance only once in a blue moon.? The phrase refers to the appearance of a second full moon within a calendar month, which actually happens about every thirty-two months.

Thanks, but I knew already what a blue moon is. I explained it in the notes at the bottom. I just don't know why they call the second moon a blue moon. I did think it was a southern U.S. term since that's the only place I've heard it.

I am sorry for your loss. This poem is sadly true, we lose contact with those around us and before we know it, it is too late to properly restore it. It's a sad occurrence.

How sad to think of the times we "should have" called, should have visited, but didn't. This poem is a reminder of how busy we (I) become and forget to keep in touch with old friends, find out how I can pray for them, give them encouragement. Thanks.

It is so easy to let too much time pass. It's gone before we realize. Thank you for your feedback.

Hi there,

I think you need to call your friends more often! It really is sad that as time passes by, we lose touch, and then we just lose friends.

The big 'C' is still a death sentence--though you'd think it wouldn't be anymore.

Thank you for sharing,

~Mustang Patty~

Beneath the simple construct lurks something sinister and thought provoking. I have lost both a wife and a daughter to cancer. This is quite chilling in its conversational simplicity. DJ

We can lose people so quickly, then we wonder why we didn't take more time with them. Over the last decade I lost both parents, my nephew, and my sister. As well as a few friends. It makes me realize just how little time we have together. Thank you for reading my poem and for your review.

It does seem that when you haven't spoken to an old friend for a long time, so many changes happen over the years and people die, kids grow up. The moral I took from your poem is to stay in touch with people you care about. Don't let a phone call happen only once in a blue moon. Thanks for sharing.

But it just seems like the days slip away and before we know it weeks, months, and years are gone. And we don't realize how much people mean to us until they are gone. Thank you for your feedback.

This is a great little poem and so true. When you get older it really does seem like most news is bad news. It makes you reluctant to ask about people. Nice one. Cheers. Jen.

Brilliant! The structure is light and free like a Dr.Suess poem but the actual theme is very adult, very creative juxtaposition and very realistic and relatable.

A blue moon is the second full moon in a single month. The moon cycles in 28 days and most of our months are longer. So about every 2 years, a blue moon/2nd full moon occurs.

The poem is so reflective of life. I especially enjoyed the final lines, "one in a while becomes once in a blue moon."

I thought I included an explanation in the author's notes about what a blue moon is. I figured some people wouldn't know. I did not know how often they occurred though. Thank you for reading and for your feedback.
