Any child witnessing their parents argue or go further automatically reaches for an escape clause. Jonathan's home life, his father's drinking and the money problems represent thousands of homes.

The explanation about his planes is told with the excitement and magic of a child's mind. Jonathan's voice drums loud with adventure, fun and hope for a better future for himself. I'm looking forward to the next chapter.

Hi Brett,

I like this second chapter and I'm glad that you listened to people who wanted you to expand on this tale. I really like this second part too. It's too bad so many people think drinking is so much fun. When I was young I thought it was, but I hardly ever have a drink now. Except of course milk, water, pop, and iced tea.

Me, I am a tea guzzler. Now that I am older. But, in my younger times I had my drinking days too. Glad you enjoyed this little tale. Your comments and support appreciated.

I use to drink when I was young and foolish. Now I'm old and forgetful. Ha-Ha

Great introduction to the story of Jonathan and his life. Infused with the ability to remove himself from chaos into his own world of adventure. I have a feeling he is a very strong individual.

I look forward to this as I am getting in right at the start

Hi, Brett

_ Excellent first chapter.
_ I do hope you continue on with this, even if it is a novella.
_ So sad to see how the kids suffer from the bickering, need to have more and more materialistic 'things'.
_ Enjoyed the the read.

Cheers & Blessings

Very realistic and entertaining look inside the head of a ten year old boy dealing with the adult issues in the other room. I remember those days, and my own model planes, but my dad did all that without drinking.
Sometimes it's easy to blame, not just others, but the bottle. Some people are just that way. My dad was angry and abusive, but never drunk a drop of liquor.

This may be a fictional piece, but it is true in do many homes today. The kids are forced to retreat somewhere else or escape in their imagination. I look forward to reading more of the story.

A lot of children take flight into their imagination when there is discourse in the house. Parents fighting and arguing is emotionally hard on the children. However, the creativity produced sometimes sparks a whole new life and future for the child. I know, I was that child. I would spend hours alone in my back yard with pen and paper to draw and write just so I wouldn't have to go into the house. I was ten years old.

A very insightful beginning into a story that will well worth reading. Very good, Brent and keep writing.

One of the biggest discourses in the house can be the affects of alcohol. Glad you enjoyed this little tale. Your comments and support appreciated. Like you pen and paper were my "airplanes" when I was a boy. Sure beat the alternatives.

I can understand Jonathan's sentiment. It seems how more money you earn, the more you are short and have to fight over it. Money is the source of evil, if you don't know how to work with it. He escape the argument by flying away with his toy airplanes. And the bottle hidden in the kitchen cupboard make the problems even worse.
