Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

My face was crunched up in horror from the first word to the last. Hannibal is already pleading for an invitation to dinner. Hopefully Doctor Howler and Hannibal will treat each other as guest and not dinner.
The explanation of the formatting makes sense. For a twisted mind, logic in all areas is out of whack. Gruesome, delicious story. Remind me to skip Hammer Mill on Halloween.

Yikes! No halloween parties at ramshackle cabins for me this year! I think I'l just stay home and watch re-runs of "The Walking Dead". (LOL)
It's creepy though, I must admit - thinking about who might actually live (carefully camouflaged) "right down the road".

Two quick spots I noticed might need some editing:

1- He stashed away his collection
Of scalpels he had gathered
From harvesting human organs

I think either from has to be changed to for, or scalpels has to be changed to souvenirs - the way this segment is written, it implies the scalps were obtained from within the bodies he mutilated.

2- Tossed the thing in to
A blazing fireplace one night
I'm pretty sure in to should be into

Great Halloween write :-)

Well, the little kiddies who hear this one won't sleep tonight. Thank you very much. I had so hoped to go out an howl.
And the Big People may perceive the local coroner in an entirely different light--or dark as the case may be. hee-hee

Why'd he waste that perfectly good skull by burning it? It would have made a great hood ornament or ash tray.

Hi Brett,

This is another well written story, although I don't really like Nightmare stories that much. Still you know how to keep the reader enticed from beginning to end.

This guy certainly doesn't let Halloween go to waste. What a fate he has in store for those unfortunate souls who come calling on Halloween. He isn't particular about the age, and two freezers will hold quite a bit. Very spooky, and I think I'll stay home this Halloween. Wouldn't want to encounter this character. judi

From your introduction by Dr. Howler:"...close those big ole peppers peepers of yours, and enjoy this frightfully good one I wrote especially for you."---I believe you might have meant "peepers" here, Brett...

Holy pan-fried pancreas, Brett! Hannibal Lecter has nothin' on THIS guy, heh-heh-heh...

Pan-fried livers, hearts, and snacking on eyeballs...yeah, this dude definitely has issues, not the least of which was his penchant for the smell of a corpses smelly feet. Of course, I have known a few living people who you would've sworn were dead if you happened to be unfortunate enough to get a whiff of their pavement pounders...WHEW!

Not only was the Creepy Coroner of Hammer Mill a connoisseur of corpse consumption, this whack-job cooked-up, then served up, the dearly departed deceased to their loved ones, then to their own families. If only they'd known...

With the Halloween festivities in full swing by now, I'd wager the Creepy Coroner of Hammer Mill will be set for meat for many months to come.

Grisly stuff, my fiend...e-r-r-r-r...heh-heh, I meant friend, of course.

Pleasant screams!

~Dean

What an amazing review. Coming from you it validates this writing. As Horror is your specialty, not mine.

Been kind of feeling disenchanted with this site some the last few days and this review goes a long way in changing those feelings for me.

Had a contest I recently entered, and know I should have won, no questions asked.

(ALL the other entries were spin-offs of my story line).

I know, I read each one of them.

And, they were posted after I posted my entry.

My entry was not even in the top three.

    Really bummed me out.

Needed some encouragement and that is exactly what your review did for me.

So, I really do appreciate that very much.

I know exactly how you feel, Brett.

While I have won my fair share of member sponsored contests, I'm rarely (if ever!) picked by the Contest Enforcement Committee to win the $100.00 prizes. I'm also no longer chosen for Story of the Month, Poem of the Month, or anything else the vaunted Committee has it's hands on. So yes, it does get very aggravating.

Just focus on why you're really here during those times when favoritism and self-perceived unfairness gets you down. And that reason is to improve as a writer. If you can do that and stay focused, all of the other reasons we are members of Fanstory pale in comparison.

Keep your chin up, buddy. Just do your thing and you'll be just fine.

    ~Dean :}
