A most interesting poem! I felt like the speaker was addressing a doctor who had perhaps labeled him based on limited information and then the "labeled one" speaks back to the doctor, perhaps disagreeing somewhat with the diagnosis. The doctor tells him to lay aside his ego and listen, but the speaker is thinking perhaps the doctor, too sure of himself, should look in the mirror and see he is the one who should be listening to his patient, who no doubt knows himself better than the doctor. I am perhaps investing too much of my own experience into the reading of this piece, but nevertheless, I enjoyed it very much and felt like you were making some excellent points. I'm listening, if you care to correct me. ;p

Correct? What? You have elucidated one of the two major themes I was trying to portray. NJK62, the other. Nicely deciphered. I'm impressed. If you would like to read his review, I would have to say he has dissected the piece nicely. Thank you most sincerely.

A deep thinking poem. The writer obviously has a different agenda to the doctor. His mirror appears to be reflecting his uncertainty as to why he exists. The doctor is more philosophical.

The emphasis of professionals has for too long been on treating the disease rather than the patient. It is good to see the practice of holistic medicine but sad that it is less mainstream than it should be. In education, Gardner's concept of multiple intelligences is at least recognised, even if implementation is woefully poor.
Despite the better knowledge that we now have about the working of the human brain, many psychiatrists seem locked in the past, in the fruitless task of splitting the whole into parts and attempting to treat them in isolation. Your reference to the mirror is apt. If the doctor is a whole person, so also should the patient be.

We are all put into little drawers and mislabeled
by many of the drawer keepers
The world is not so pat and easy
complexity, complexity, complexity
It takes time and effort to to see clearly
and who has time
not the doctor, that's for sure
Your little drawer is measured in short
parcels of time
Not even enough, to look in the mirror
Very well done
Excellent picture to match

Only the good die young, but what good is a dead one. That was my first thought after having read this great piece of poetic pulchritude. There is many ways to read into this poem you've written here. This was an excellent piece of poetic art to have read and written this response for... John

Hello Victor,

As your poem speaks to me, I couldn't agree more. This is a rather timely write for me based on a recent experience.

Just remember, when waves hit the rock over and over again, eventually, they do leave their mark. Hope of redemption.

Enjoyed your piece. Thanks for sharing.

Best,
Lena

I am not sure what you mean by rigidity in education. I guess we have to have a system, and there have to be rules, and as citizens of a country we have to adhere to them. I was brought up in a rigid, well-disciplined educational system, didn't do me any harm, I learned with excellent, dedicated teachers far more than kids do nowadays-so maybe it is the players that are in the system that are at fault. Well expressed views, well chosen words. faye

I'm not sure I fully understood your diagnosis of educational rigidity. I take it others, i.e. the doctor, who diagnose should occasionally look in the mirror.

"An Educational Rigidity" This poem you have created here was well worked out and fathoms quite deeply into the abyss. I enjoyed this piece. Well done.

Great art work for these words written.
I guess making a diagnosis of any kind
can be a difficult task for any doctor
I guess knowledge can be so important here.
