Yes, I agree with your message, professors who call themselves experts, only listen to their voice. The world does not revolve around them. Every being is unique and intelligence should not be measured according to the experts' judgments. Nice, provocative message. Excellent piece.

what is concluded as mental illness says the mirror for the same sickness is evident in the one who would conlude, but ai guess they just do not know.
Nicely versed, my learned friend. A truely proffesional write. Perhaps we also need to mirror or judgements sometimes, we might be surprised what we find.
Bravo.

Oh, my dear friend, I abhor judgement, even by my learned, omniscient, self. LMAO

Must swing on this rope of poetry. Well said, author. I never found anything wrong. I wanted to tell a certain Dr. the same thing. Well done.

Wow, this is an excellent poem and commentary on modern society and humantity--a spooky coincidence because I literally just wrote a poem before reading your poem that is very similar in theme (at least in my opinion). I'll post it. Thank you for sharing.

People are too quickly diagnosed or labeled mentally ill if they see things in a different perspective or deviate from the norm. When one is reflective, he often asks what is my purpose here and what is my value. Too often the psychiatric practitioner response with platitudes and does not take a look in the mirror himself. Thought provoking poem.

Thanks. You did a good job in the poem presenting this concept.

Oh-ho! A little projection goes a long, long way, right, Victor.

A good poem on the travails of mental health, that hasn't changed a helluva lot since Sigmund and Carl.

It seems like you are saying that the speaker in this poem is being judged by a person who seems to have the same problem that the judger is judging in the speaker but fails to see it.

This is a witty way to put it.

I think labels should label's.

Keep writing

Joan

Not6 only are our lives reflected in the mirror, but also our lives are reflected by those who love us and how we treat others we come in contact with.

I like your poem. Its easy to read and your style is one of my favorites, since it leaves a little up to me to explain or use for my own design. Thank you for writing it.

Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

I had to think about this long and hard - my "gut" reaction has more to do with the education system than the medical world (The Dr. cited combined with the art work brought the academic title rather than the medical one to mind).

On first blush, there seems to be a blustering at the way the educational system uses boxes and labels to determine the path each child should be sent down. What I think of as the automation of education (One from column A, 2 from column B - voila, etc)

Your summation omits or retains seems to be a comment/condemnation on the college application/enrollment system - who gets in, who plays the game well on paper. Given the fact that what we are dealing with is, potentially, the entire future of an individual's life span it would seem conveyor belt processing becomes nothing more than rote (peg hole) thinking. Sending thousands off to be dashed against the rocks of lost potential and mediocracy based on compilations of data that don't reflect anything - except the specialized ability to "take tests and respond in a pre-approved manner". Leaving no room for the uniqueness of the human being.

ON THE OTHER HAND
If I assume that the Dr. in question here is a psychiatrist or psychologist (possibly even one being seen as a result of a physical damage) then the poem takes on a different tenor altogether. Now it veers into the territory of the "God Complex" that leaves Doctors imperious... and blind the real issue of disease not symptom.

Significantly more so than a physician, a mental health professional has only empirical information to work from. And his/her biased opinion thereof.

So now we walk into the question of existence. Or rather, someone else's view of what makes us significant or fathomable (a viable asset to humanity, so to speak). How a "deviation" can be "corrected", rather than nurtured or understood. (Oh look, more boxes to check off, never mind the fact that the drawer one has been filed in is wrong - initial questionnaire misinterpreted, wrong track from thereon).

In either case - the closing "dialog"
"Lay ego aside and listen,"

"I wonder if you truly understand the nature of the mirror."
(a.k.a. right back at ya')

speaks loudly and clearly to the antagonistic relationship between the powers that be and the ones who that must live with their supposedly superior ability to determine what is best for us.

Personally, I always find myself hard pressed to keep that particular anger civilized - I tend to be much more caustic and belligerent (LOL). on both possible interpretations!)

I only read your first paragraph and started to smile. Please read my only other sixer. You will smile. I apologize for not specifying who, but searching negates my words here and I would have to rethink them and that, my dear, is far too much work during the Cubs gam,e. LOL Thank you.

Are you crazed???? There is no room for logic or common sense in politics and government!!!

Close. There is no, and usually never has been room for logic, common sense, and...you left one out-truth.

But what did you expect from a dreamer? Drunk and cynical and boring someone in some dark cafe.
