G'day Shari. I have been wondering how Frank would react and he did it very well, good on both of you. This is a very happy little chater and I loved that thank you at the end. What a wonderful thing to happen. Cheers and well done, Fez

Love your last line about touching souls. It sounds like your class had quite a few talented students, especially the girl who wrote the novel. I find reading about your students interesting, it shows how much impact teachers have.

Thanks, Elaine. I appreciate the feedback on my students. They amazed me when they put their minds to it.

Hi. You deserve this six for you are the sort of teacher that saved my young ass. I must say I read the story and enjoyed it...but it was the last stuff at the end that brought tears to my eyes...because school was hell for me...and I was a honour student and fucked up and angry and never never taken seriously...in fact when I aced exams they accused me of cheating and made me re write them alone with three teachers watching...
So...your words touched me...I owe my life to a librarian, a third grade teacher, a fith grade teacher and a number of coaches...but it was the thrid grade teacher who started me writng...

thanks

I had students like you --attitude but acing everything. It is frustrating. So glad you found some good mentors along the way.
Thanks so much for the six.

I didn't read what went on in previous chapters, but Wow! This chapter has so much going on in it. Yet, it's still organized. Like how it jumps from member of the family to another. Maybe I should adopt those affirmations. Positive thinking is a definite plus. Like how this chapter ends on how you made a difference in someone's life. Sometimes we never find out about these things. Wonderfully written. Les

I keep a photo album filled with notes students gave me and/or their school pictures with praise on the back. It's sure an ego booster when I feel guilty that I'm not helping anyone now--except for hubby and maybe that's enough.

I liked this chapter as good as any ... primarily because of the way you reassessed your new work assignment at the end of the chapter. Expanding a brain is commendable ... touching a soul and changing a life has an everlasting power that ends up benefitting many more people than the individual. Just think of the impact he may eventually have on so many other folks. It's quite a reward, indeed!

And Frank being so relatively subtle was nice surprise. Enjoyuing this a lot!

Best to you, Shari ...

Alan

Ain't that the truth. The students that you thought you would never enjoy teaching are the ones that actually appreciated what you did. I know exactly how you feel. Now, on top of everything I am doing right now, I've got the remainder of the semester to save a senior, from one of high schools. Got the 911 call last week.

Wow! All this happened and you only had one year left in your career. No wonder you were stressed and a bit hurt after losing your coveted class.

To be honest, i never doubted you would quickly get grounded again. Strong woman you are. Having someone to talk to is so very important. Truly what great friends are for, and when not available a good therapist will do.

Do you still employ some of those affirmations?

I read this a the other day but could stay online long enough to write a review. I notice some typos and other minor errors here and there, but it appears that you corrected them. Nice, uplifting ending.

I'm going to have to start using affirmations again. At least the one about staying calm. As Frank's mind gets confused about facts anymore, I have to try to stop convincing him he's wrong. With dementia, it's hopeless.
I did fix spags noted by others.
Hope you save your senior. I remember how badly I felt when someone failed the final and I had no choice but to fail him too based on the grading system in place. I almost cried when I told him the news. That stunned him. He said, "Wow, I never had a teacher in tears because they had to fail me." Maybe that reaction will stop him from relying on luck to get him through.

Teaching average and below average teens gave me a chance to touch souls ... I know exactly what you mean.

Your style is so readable, Shari. I feel I know your family well. :)

Enjoyed the read.

Shari, I loved the ending to your story and it's that kind of teaching that sincerely make me feel teachers never get the recognition they deserve. I would think it's easy to teach kids in honors classes because they're smart and want to learn. When a teacher reaches into the soul of average students, that's when they become heros to me. A couple of things to look at...

Do you have more affirmations?(")

My sister's son, Bobby, played best man, (Played doesn't sound right. Maybe something like...had the honor of being beat man?)

I adjusted to my regular classes making it a challenge to help student(,) singled out as nerds or misfits(,) find their talents.

I agree with you about "played" as a bad choice, so reworded. I'm not sure I need those commas since the phrase is necessary to describe certain students.

Appreciate that I'm a hero. LOL
I do remember those students the most.

Another wonderful chapter. Especially the part regarding the young people in your classes. I have a relative who is a teacher and has stated many times the "joy" in touching souls. From this chapter sounds as if things are back to normal. Husband, kids, and sisters things seem to be going smoothly. No flare-ups hiding in the wings...or is there?

I'm glad to hear something good good out of a disaster and you were able to feel fulfilled teaching different kinds of pupils. I'm a great believer in that. It also sounds as though the family are behaving themselves. I'm sure your son's 'normal' wedding came as a huge relief!

LOL I enjoy both the weddings. My daughter-in-law is very conservative. Chris is the "nut" in his family. (Every one needs that).
