Yes, I do believe that spirits remain behind for awhile before passing over. Sometimes walls will seem to echo the sounds heard continually when others stayed there for ages!
Impressions, it's called. Have you ever walked into an old house and felt it vibrations? You can tell if whoever lives there is happy or sad. I enjoyed the read.

Thank you, spitfire. I am glad you liked the story. Sometime in the future I intend to spend some time in that house and see if I can sense anything.

Well, it is neither here nor there. I sincerely believe that when one loves something dearly, his/her soul hardly let go off it. This may be the case with the house. Stating how passionately you aunt lover her house, er spirit and that of her husband may refuse to part with the place. On the other hand, Joe may be illusionary about the house but which I think is most unlikely. Great narrative work.

Thank you, Ola. My uncle built the house for my aunt so I can see why he would want to throw some guy out that started tearing down his work. I intend to spend some time in that house when I can

This story was very good, and very well written. As I was reading it I wanted to know what happened next! You want to know if I think Joe is delusional? I don't know if I believe in ghosts, but it could be true. Either that, or someone probably told him about the house before, and he's imagining it. I don't know.

Thank you, Story teller. I can't decide if Joe is a little bit of a mental case or if there truly are ghosts there. I intend to spend some time there when I can and find out for myself.

This is a nice story. I never believed in ghosts until my mother-in-law passed away. She lived with us for years and about a month after she died I was in the basement of our home folding clothes when all of a sudden something touched me on the back and I turned around to see if my husband was trying to scare me. I got a chill all over my body and I ran up stairs, my face white as a sheet. I told my husband his mother was down there and she did not want me to fold the clothes. She always did that job when she was here. A few other times when I was in the basement, I could hear footsteps upstairs and the floor creaking, when I knew not one was home. Yes, I do believe in ghosts. Your story is well written and it held my interest until the very end. Lani2

Of course their spirits are there. If they have been happy there, and aunt Grace loved the house, why would some of her spirit not remain?

Thank you for your comments. It makes me feel good to know they may still be there. They loved that house.

Love this story! Love, love, love it! I moved into my grandmother's house after she died and she still lived there. About seven people not associated with the house, had some kind of siting or experience with her. My parents got devorced and sold the house. Thirty five years later, My husband's friends mother, was found to have bought it. I asked if anything strange ever happened there, and he said that an old lady ghost lives there and rattles around in the kitchen at night. So yes, I believe in ghosts and that Grace and Claude are living there. So happy they are making him put back the porch and re-paint it.

Now down to business, you need to look over your paragraphs, and you don't need quotation marks for thoughts. You just Italicize them. In the second paragraph, you need a (,) after house.
In the 3rd paragraph you need to start a new paragraph after house.
In the 4th paragraph you need to start a new paragraph after, (I remember it well) There may be others but my husband wants dinner, but I really loved reading this. Thanks for sharing and please keep us informed. Tell Aunt Grace I'm a fan of hers. : )

Personally, I have no problem believing that your relatives are the spirits in the house. I spent part of my childhood in a haunted house that my parents bought for 100 dollars because no one else wanted it. I was the only one who the ghost allowed in the up stairs bedrooms.

I've published a book (amazon) called 'My Walls Speak' inspired by this house. Loved your story.

Just a suggestion...

"Claude had a beautiful home to take his new bride to."

To avoid ending the sentence in a preposition (to), you could say...

(Claude had a beautiful home for his new bride."

Without much experience of ghosts, I tend not to believe in them, but it does seem awfully realistic how the spirits in the house have persuaded him to change the house back. Most enjoyable story and well narrated with good descriptions. Couple of things to correct: Para 6, cleanliness. Para 7, Father Time. Para 8, history. Para 12, a thumbs-up... Para 16 take it personally. Hope you find this helpful. Faye

Thanks for your help. I am always open for suggestions. One thing that I found spooky was that Joe told me Gramma-Grace, always wore a hair net. My Aunt Grace did always wear a hair net.

prettybluebirds: I believe that our body dies but our soul lives on. I have read, seen on TV, heard people tell stories about ghosts. I am a believer; I believe Joe. And, I enjoyed this story, put a smile on my face. Nicely written. livelylinda

Thanks, Linda. It is not that I don't believe the soul lives on, I just wondered why they would choose to stay there and not move on.

I think of the souls at Auswitch (sp?) or any of the death camps. I believe many can't pass over because they are still trying to find their relatives with whom they were separated upon arriving at the camp. In other situations, it is not unusual to hear stories about a ghost who won't leave their home or the bar where they were shot, etc. due to strong connections in those places. Just a thought. livelylinda

this is an excellent write, prettybluebirds, I enjoyed reading this story about your aunt's house and the history of it. I enjoyed reading joe's stories about the ghost of your aunt. I don't think there as ghosts as I don't believe in ghosts, but I think he's a great storyteller. I spotted one error in the story, should be Unfortunately, time catches up instead of Unfortunetly
